6 Harley Quinn Hair and Makeup Tutorials for Halloween

Harley Quinn finally got to step away from the Joker and star in her own movie, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), this year. Like so many of us when we go through breakups, Harley decided to switch up her look and cut off some hair after losing her dead-weight boyfriend. Both a wild card and style icon in her own right, Harley and her squad have inspired countless costumes emulating the look that this mischievous and devious villainess has become known for, and it’s actually pretty easy to re-create her look DIY-style—especially because her look is basically all about the makeup.

Because Harley Quinn has become such a super popular costume for a couple Halloween seasons and running, it may feel like an unoriginal idea. But, just like any trend, you can easily put your own spin on the costume and show off your make-up skills at the same time, and we’re here to help you do just that. We’ve scoured the web for you to find six Harley Quinn costume tutorials that are definitely unique, but they still pay homage to the character. Scroll through below to check out our favorite how-tos and a beauty few staples you’ll need to have in your makeup bag to really capture her look.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

The Classic Harley Quinn

If you want to look exactly like Suicide Squad’s Harley Quinn, we won’t deprive you. This (relatively easy) tutorial will give you a near-identical look to that of Margot Robbie in the movie. You’ll need a Harley Quinn wig, deep brown eyebrow pencil to get her dark eyebrows, a cosplayer-worthy eyeshadow palette, a fluffy blending brush and a long-lasting red lipstick.

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn went brighter and more whimsical in her first stand-alone movie Birds of Prey. If you want Harley’s cute shortened pigtails and dewy look, you should check out this tutorial. Get some blurring powder, a Fenty contour stick, highlighter and shimmery silver eyeshadow.

Double-Bun Harley Quinn

Check out this tutorial for a how-to on red-and-blue double buns. To get this look, you’ll want to pick up red and blue braiding hair, a white eyeliner pencil, a colorful eyeshadow palette, an intense eyeliner and faux lashes.

Pop-Art Harley Quinn

If you’re basing your costume off of a comic book, you might as well go hardcore comic book with this pop-art inspired tutorial. You’ll need a long-lasting foundation, a full coverage concealer, and a contour powder to get a good base. Make sure to pick up some face paint and a bright highlighter for the pop-art elements of the look.

The O.G. Harley Quinn

Before there was Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, there was the original DC Comics Harley Quinn, with a very superhero-esque eye mask. Try your hand at the original look, here. Instead of a red-and-blue wig, you’ll want a long blonde wig. You’ll need a ton of face and body paint to get her OG look. Make sure you’re also armed with liquid black eyeliner for dramatic wings.

The Joker-Inspired Harley Quinn

Though this is definitely not your classic, movie-level Harley Quinn, comic-book fans will appreciate the joker-inspired touches of this look, with the black-and-red eyeshadow look, dotted eyes and winged-out lips. Make sure to opt for a foundation that’s slightly lighter than what you normally wear, a red lip liner—but not for the reasons you think—and a very precise eyeshadow brush. Plus, it’s just hella gorgeous.
