Super Bowl weekend is almost upon us and we’re willing to bet that, for some of you, this has little meaning aside from making plans to hang out with friends and indulge in snacks (Read: nachos!) while others get overly excited about something that hardly matters (Read: football).That said, this year’s parties will definitely be smaller and safer than ever before thanks to social distancing practices. Just because you’re only watching with roommates or family doesn’t mean you can’t go all out, though! Could my diet be affecting my skin?

“This is a good question because a lot of times we talk about topical treatments when inflammation or breakouts [can] arise from what we are putting in our bodies. Processed or artificial sugars, dehydration and nutrient deficiencies can play a major role in skin health. The body needs the proper vitamins and minerals to rid the skin of inflammation and waste. Without them, oil glands can go into overdrive, skin can be dry and flaky, and discoloration can appear. This question could answer many issues a patient may have where topical treatments are failing. A healthy body will better support healthy skin. The AAD has done copious studies to evaluate the role of diet and acne and has found that high glycemic index foods and dairy are the culprits that are correlated with acne. Additionally, as we age, there is a process that occurs where sugar chains attach to skin proteins (in a process called glycosylation). This can cause increased sallowing and wrinkling of the skin. So, lower glycemic index diets are best.”

Am I at increased risk of skin cancer?

“This is a great question and is rarely asked to me. I think that people assume they know the answer to it, so they don’t ask. I will usually let a patient know this answer when doing a skin check because I think that it is very important and can change the frequency of recommended in-office dermatologic skin checks. Though every person can get skin cancer, those who are at increased risk include people with:

• Fair skin types, especially blue eyes or red hair
• 50 or more moles
• Family history of skin cancer, especially melanoma
• Personal history of skin cancer
• History of sunburn
• History of sun tanning bed use
• History of radiation therapy (usually for cancer treatment)
• Current medications or treatments that suppress the immune system
• A transplanted organ (kidney transplant, etc.)
• A history of breast cancer—personal or family

“This is a great question! SPF coverage is dependent on how sensitive the skin is and sun exposure. You need at least SPF 50 if you’re planning to be active outside. The AAD guidelines state that a minimum of SPF 30 is required. For everyday wear, I suggest 30 SPF on the face, at least. This is a great preventative question that can avoid more serious skin health questions down the line.”

What can I do to keep my skin healthy?

“Overall, many people do not see the forest for the trees. They look at one specific aspect of their skin only: jowls, smile lines, brown spots, redness, eczema or acne. I believe that you need to also address the overall health of the person in order to address the specific concerns. And if given an opportunity, with a receptive patient, I love to discuss the impact of the following on overall skin health and how it relates to their specific skin issues, such as acne or rosacea. For example, diet. Are you getting enough Vitamin C in your diet or through supplementation? Vitamin C is an essential co-factor for the production of collagen; without it you cannot make new collagen. Collagen supplements may be beneficial in stimulating collagen and improving hydration of the skin and elasticity. Then there’s stress. Find ways to manage your stress as it is very clear that stress will exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and acne. In addition, stress weakens your immune system and a weak immune system makes you more susceptible to infections and even cancer. Also, incorporate daily exercise. It strengthens your immune system, decreases stress and it increases blood flow to your skin, helping to remove toxins and deliver nutrients and antioxidants.”

“I find that most of my patients understand the importance of wearing sunscreen, but most people don’t realize that sunscreen isn’t one size fits all. There are so many sunscreens available on the market and while many people know it’s important to find a sunscreen that works best for your skin type, it’s also important to take into consideration your climate. I live in the northeast and the sunscreen I use in the winter is not the same one I use in the summer.”

How can I monitor moles and markings at home?

“No one is immune to skin cancer. It is helpful for patients to monitor their moles for any changes since doctors can’t ask about what they don’t know. You should check your skin monthly and be alert to changes in the number, size, shape or color of spots on your skin or sores that do not heal. Pay special attention to moles—especially moles that have recently changed, bleed or itch. This can be life-changing if a worrisome mole is found early on. It could mean the difference in how invasive removal and treatment will be.”

Merchant, who now stars in Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row, was just 21 when she shot the first pilot episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones in 2009 after being cast as Daenerys Targaryen. But that pilot—along with Merchant’s casting in it—was scrapped. Over a decade later, The Tudors alum, 33, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about being cut from the show and being replaced by actress Emilia Clarke, an experience she now calls “a really great lesson.”

As it turns out, Merchant always wanted to “back out” from the project—so being cut from the show was something of a blessing. “It was an affirmation about listening to my instincts and following them, because I tried to back out of that situation and, during the contract process, I did back out,” she told EW in an interview published on Thursday, January 28. “I was talked back into it by some persuasive people. Then I found myself naked and afraid in Morocco and riding a horse that was clearly much more excited to be there than I was,” Merchant added, referring to an even racier version of Daenerys’ wedding scene in the original pilot.

The Salem actress says that, in hindsight, she “didn’t have any training as an actor,” and she wasn’t “excited” about the role in the first place. “It was a lesson that if my guts are telling me a story isn’t something I’m excited to tell, then I shouldn’t try to be excited just because other people are telling me that I should be excited,” she explained.”

“I didn’t have any training as an actor, I only have my instincts. And what excites me and what drives me is a compelling story and a compelling character. So for me, Game of Thrones was never that,” she continued.

As for what else she thinks of the actress who replaced her, Merchant says Emilie Clarke made the role “iconic.” She told EW, “I think it’s a testament to Emilia Clarke for making that role iconic—she was obviously excited to tell that story, and she was epic and excellent. But for me, it wasn’t in my heart to tell it.”

Merchant also thinks of the Emmy-winning star’s success fondly. “It was kind of funny riding to auditions on buses with Emilia Clarke’s face on it,” she said. “It’s been a thing I felt like I watched unfold and it’s been fantastic for the film industry in Northern Ireland and Croatia, and that has been really great.”

Here’s to Watch BLACKPINK’s First-Ever Virtual Concert, So BLINKs Don’t Miss a Second

BLACKPINK in your area! If you’re a BLINK, you may want to know how to watch BLACKPINK’s “The Show” live online to celebrate the K-pop girl group’s first-ever virtual concert.

The four-member girl group—which consists of Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé—will stream their first online concert on Sunday, January 31, on YouTube. The concert, which is titled “The Show,” comes after the release of BLACKPINK’s first full-length album, The Album, in October 2020. In an interview with Rolling Stone, BLACKPINK confirmed that “The Show” will consist of between 15 to 20 songs, and all eight tracks from The Album. Among The Album’s tracks include singles “How You Like That” and “Lovesick Girls,” as well as collaborations “Ice Cream” (with Selena Gomez) and “Bet You Wanna” (with Cardi B.)

“Rather than thinking of our group, we thought of our fans first. YouTube is the platform our fans are most familiar with, and has been the best partner that allowed our music and performances to reach our fans all over the world. YouTube’s network and our BLINKs’ always had such great synergy,” BLACKPINK told Billboard of how the idea for “The Show” came to be.

As fo what the song the group was most excited to perform, the members revealed that “Pretty Savage,” a B side from The Album, was one of their favorites. The band previewed a performance of “Pretty Savage” on The Late Late Show With James Corden days before “The Show.”

“It was definitely fun preparing our setlist from the first full album because we’ve never performed those songs before within the concert setting,” the group said. “Being asked to choose only one song is probably one of the most difficult questions. But if we have to pick only one, it could be ‘Pretty Savage.’ Because our fans love the BLACKPINK-esque [nature] of the song, we get so energized when we perform it. We’re already looking forward to it!”

Megan Fox Is Sparking Engagement Rumors With MGK 2 Months After Filing For Divorce

Megan Fox appears to have been photographed wearing a ring on *that* finger, so it begs the question: Are Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly engaged? Fans certainly think so.

Speculation over Megan Fox and MGK’s engagement was sparked on Thursday, January 28, when Jennifer’s Body actress, 34, was spotted wearing a huge diamond ring on her left hand while out and about in New York City. In the photos published by the Daily Mail, Fox could be seen walking with the “Bloody Valentine” singer, 30, ahead of his performance on the Saturday, January 30, episode of Saturday Night Live. MGK stopped to sign autographs for some fans after arriving for rehearsal at NBC’s Studio 8H, at which point he was also spotted wearing a ring on his left finger. (For what it’s worth, however, his ring looked like a fashionable statement ring, versus your typical wedding band.)

Fox and MGK met on the set of their upcoming film, Midnight in the Switchgrass, and began dating while she was in the middle of her divorce from Brian Austin Green. Fox and the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum announced their split in May 2020 after almost 10 years of marriage. The exes share three kids: Noah, 8, Bodhi, 6, and Journey, 4.

Meanwhile, MGK made his relationship with the Transformers star Instagram official in July with a black-and-white mirror selfie of the two that read: “Waited for eternity to find you again.” In an interview with NME in October 2020, the rapper even credited Fox with saving his life. He admitted that he had been “coked out of [his] mind in a drunken stupor” while working on his album, Tickets to My Downfall, until he met Fox. “I think the universe caught on to me wanting to make a change,” he said at the time.

Just months earlier in June 2020, a source told Entertainment Tonight that the rapper had “marriage” with Fox on his mind. “MGK and Megan make each other laugh and that’s a big thing for Megan. They keep each other smiling,” the insider said. “MGK totally sees marriage in his future with Megan and friends could 100 percent see them getting engaged within the next year.”

However, the source noted that “Megan doesn’t think about getting engaged [or] married and she doesn’t put a timeline in place and it’s not something that really crosses her mind.” Perhaps we’ll be hearing differently soon!
