12 Times Celebrities Got Ridiculously High on Camera

There are a lot of activities we wish we could do with our favorite celebrity: cooking with Chrissy Teigen, selfie-taking with the Kardashians, perusing pictures of Zayn Malik on the internet with Gigi Hadid. The list goes on. But perhaps the activity we’ve been dying to do the most is getting high with our favorite weed-loving celebrities.

When I hear the phrase “DIY,” my eyes glaze over the same way they do when people start talking about 401ks: No matter how I try, I’m just not interested, and I probably never will be on more than a minimally polite level. What I am interested in, though, is keeping my apartment organized—no small challenge in the tiny one I live in—and doing it affordably.

I Got Extensions from ‘Hair Goddess’ And My Hair Has Never Looked Better

Earlier this year, I wrote about the painstaking process that was parting ways with my beloved, but terribly damaged, platinum hair and finding my way back to my natural, dishwater blonde roots. It’s been an emotional journey, but as The Fray profoundly wrote in their 2005 hit song, “sometimes the hardest things and the right things are the same.” The only thing that was of consolation to me during that time was that I thought it would just be a matter of time and patience while healthier hair grew in.

Fun fact: I thought wrong. So wrong. Shortly after going to the darker side, my hair started breaking off to a point where I was nearing mushroom cut territory and became a dead ringer for Chrissie Hynde. (I love Chrissie Hynde, but her iconic, choppy shag did not love me.) I felt helpless in the face of hair that was snapping off like twigs in the harsh winter wind and knew I had to act fast. Chopping it all off into a pixie cut was not an option, or at least an appealing one, so I started considering extensions.

I Got Extensions from Hair Goddess And My Hair Has Never Looked Better

See? Not good.

Enter Christina Oliva, who most people may know as “Hair Goddess” and who stars on TLC’s reality series aptly titled, “Hair Goddess.” At 18, the Staten Island native started a hair extensions business out of her parents’ garage; now, she’s one of the most sought-after hair extensions specialists in the world, and recently opened shop at Olivia Christensen Salon on New York City’s Upper East Side. I knew if I was going to get extensions, I wasn’t going to trust just any old Joe Schmo to glue bundles of hair to my already traumatized scalp.

It’s a good thing I didn’t. Let’s pretend for a second that hair extensions are cars (and as a New Yorker, that makes hair extensions MUCH more vital to my existence). Russian and Indian hair would be the Rolls Royces of hair extensions, and everything else would be, oh I don’t know, a 1998 Chevy Blazer. (No disrespect to 1998 Chevy Blazer owners, but, you get the picture.) According to Oliva, there is a huge black market wherein people try to pass off Blazers as Rolls Royces, if you will, when in fact, they’re not even Blazers. They’d be something far less chic: We’re talking hair from a human cadaver, “hair” comprised of yarn and string, or horse hair. Now, I don’t know about you, but none of those scenarios sound appealing and quite frankly, the whole corpse situation sounds like something Sargeant Benson should look into. Anyway, I digress.

I Got Extensions from Hair Goddess And My Hair Has Never Looked Better

The moral of the story is that one need be careful when considering hair extensions. One of the things that makes Oliva so sought after is not just her skill but the quality of her product. When I went in for my initial consultation she decided to use Indian hair that was custom blended to match my color and natural texture. (Sidenote: It also air-dries with really pretty, beachy waves.)

And then came the actual installation. Oliva uses the microbeading technique, which is much less damaging than extensions that are glued or sewn in. It was quick and painless. But because of the beads, I have to be super careful with the products I use. Sulfates are a big no-no, as are oils and anything that might cause the beads to slip out such as products containing hydrolyzed silk, wheat protein, or silicone. Since getting the extensions installed, I have lost a few strands, which Oliva reassured me is normal.

The whole process from start to finish took no longer than 2 hours, which is a low-key miracle because I went in with just a few fried strands on my head and came out looking like Rapunzel’s peasant cousin (peasant only because I don’t live in a castle…yet). Over the past month or so, I’ve felt like a whole new woman, somewhat of a goddess if you will, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed whipping my long hair at all parties who lament over how long it takes me to get ready now that I have hair.

Cara Delevingne Just Debuted a New Deep Brown Pixie Cut

Cara Delevingne crossed over to the dark side—in terms of her hair, that is. The 25-year-old actress, who shaved her head in April, recently dyed her grown-in platinum blonde hair, and the result is a moody, dark brown pixie cut perfect for autumn.

Delevingne debuted her fresh color on Friday on the set of her upcoming Amazon television series “Carnival Row.” The show, which is shot in Prague, centers on a neo-Victorian city inhabited by mythical creatures, so that would probably explain Delevingne’s mystical, Victorian era-like garb.

6 Tips for Dating Someone with a Mental Illness

It can be challenging when you’re with someone who’s struggling with mental illnesses like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or any other condition—especially if you’ve never experienced any of these symptoms yourself. If you’re not familiar with the traits associated with these conditions, many people can underestimate the impact they can have on relationships. In many cases, you might not even know what your partner is experiencing, which can lead you to misinterpret their feelings for you—among other miscommunications.

Knowing what to expect from a partner suffering from one of these common mental illnesses is key to making your relationship last. That’s why we talked to experts who know from experience what kinds of things can help (or hurt) your relationship when you’re with someone facing a mental illness. Here’s their top advice:

Understand the Condition

When your partner is feeling relatively good and not overly anxious or depressed is the best time to talk to them about their condition, says Clinical Psychologist Dr. Piper S. Grant. “Open up a conversation about trying to understand what they’re experiencing, what happens in their body, and what goes through their mind.” Do some research of your own to educate yourself better about their disorder.

Learn Their Triggers

Grant advises that while having this discussing, ask about things that might set them off. For example, what leads them to an anxiety attack? “Is it certain places, certain situations, when you’re around certain people, or when particular life circumstances are happening? This will allow you to know if something may be coming up for your loved one,” says Grant. It will also help you avoid these trigger situations or prepare for the possibility of an anxiety attack or other reaction.

Keep a Cool Head

Gently telling them to calm down, cheer up, or to stop doing a compulsive behavior that bothers you can be difficult.  Licensed therapist, Katie Krimer, says due to people’s own discomfort with others’ suffering, your tone can come off as flippant or dismissive of your partner’s experience.  “There can be a lot of shame and embarrassment one experiences if they suffer from these disorders. In A panic disorder, for example, people can actually develop a fear of having panic attacks in public situations, partially for fear of how they will be evaluated. Expressions of compassion and validation will help someone feel “gotten” and less alone in their experience.

Have a Support Plan

When discussing the disorder with your partner, come up with ways to handle any symptoms of their disorder, should they suddenly arise, like a panic attack or an extreme bout of depression. “That might mean coming up with a soothing word that is said to your loved one or that you need to leave the room together, or maybe it’s understood that your partner does not want you to touch them when their anxious but rather just sit in silence with them,” says Grant.  These are the times when communication is the hardest, so planning ahead can ease a tense situation.

Don’t Take It Personally

This is often easier said than done.  For example, avoidance can be common traits with anxious or depressed people.  They may not be avoiding you, but perhaps a situation that can trigger a reaction.  “Don’t assume he or she is upset with you,” says licensed therapist, Kayce Hodos.  “The biggest challenge you’re likely to face is feeling frustrated that you can’t fix it. You can offer support, but your partner is responsible for managing their symptoms.”

MORE: What to Do When You’re Dating a Guy with Problems Below the Belt

Consult a Therapist

Hopefully, your partner has a good therapist, but you may need to find one, too, advises Hodos.  It’s normal to get frustrated with your partner’s symptoms at times, so having a professional to speak to about how YOU are feeling and who won’t take sides, is important.  “After all, you both need to be taking care of yourselves for your relationship to be healthy,” she says.

The bottom line is that, despite challenges, a partner who is suffering from a mental illness doesn’t mean you won’t be treated well or the relationship is doomed.  Many will always be passionate and devoted individuals and can even tend to be unique thinkers and very energetic, fun people.  Understanding your partner and taking the right steps to deal with their issue is key to having a healthy relationship.

A Visual Guide to Picking the Right Nail Polish Colors for Your Skin Tone

We pay so much attention to our nails (it always takes us no less than 20 minutes to pick out the perfect shade every time we get a mani, be it at home or the salon)—but turns out we’ve been doing it all wrong. We shouldn’t be matching our nail color to our outfits our even our moods, because just like our hair and our makeup, our nails should be matching our skin tone. That’s right, there are certain colors that make for the best nail polish for pale skin, and other nail colors that complement dark skin tones better. How did we not realize this before?

Light skin tones

Behold the polish shades that will look divine on you! The trick with pale skin tones are finding polish shades that compliment, rather than competing with or washing out, your fair complexion. Here’s a special selection of hues to get you started.

Nude: Nude polishes constantly top the most popular lacquer lists, but picking out the right nude for you is definitely a trial-and-error process. Celebrity manicurist Elle, who works with stars like Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez, says that those with fair skin tones—think Emma Stone–should try a sheer pinkish nude rather than a beige, as she says that could show up yellow.

Red: Go for a classic color, like the red on the bottom of Christian Louboutin’s iconic shoes. It’s a color that Elle says will flatter everyone, even those with light skin tones. When shopping, though, make sure to hold your red polish up to the light. If you can see through it, you know it’s going to be sheer. Likewise, celebrity manicurist and nail guru Deborah Lippmann suggests going for a clean and cool blue-toned red to really make the most of pale complexions.

Pink: When it comes to pinks, those with light skin tones have a ton of options. Deborah says that fair skin can totally rock both sheer pinks or super bright fuchsias  with cool undertones.

Purple: For fair skin, Elle says that pastel lavenders look amazing, but to be wary of how much white the color has in it. Generally, you want to make sure it won’t look more white than lilac when it’s sitting against your skin.

Blue: You may be tempted to go for that cobalt, but Elle says that if you have a light skin tone, navy is a fun option. In fact, it’s another that works especially well if you have a warm undertone. “I would say that this color is almost universal,” she says. “Navy goes so great on anyone’s skin tone, you can’t get it wrong.”

Nail Polish for Medium Skin Tones

Medium-olive skin tones

Medium skin tones vary—from a bronzy glow to olive—and that changes the colors you wear best depending on your undertone. However, these nail polish picks are universally flattering and gorgeous for your medium-toned complexions.

Nude: While those with very fair skin may lean towards something with a pinkish hint, medium skin can handle something that is a bit more beige. Lippmann describes her favorite beige-nude, “Fashion” (pictured above) as a “full-coverage yellow-based color.”

Red: Orange-reds may reign your lipstick collection, but that shade can work well with your mani, too. Elle explained to us that if you had a skin tone similar to Kim Kardashian, she would choose a red that had a pop of orange to it. Similarly, Lippmann says that she would choose something with gold undertones. “A red with gold undertones will bring out this complexion’s natural glow,” she told us.

Pink: Those with medium skin tones may find peachy-pinks especially flattering, according to Deborah. Look for polishes that are sheer yet pigmented for a juicy, summertime-appropriate look.

Blue: While medium skin tones can do pastel blues, an intense sky blue is an even more flattering choice. Elle says to make sure that any shade you choose has enough pigment in it to really stand out next to your skin, especially if you have warm undertones.

Purple: Purple isn’t just taking over your eyeshadow palette; it turns out that purple polish is super versatile. Elle recommends staying away from pastels with a white base and going towards something with more pigment, like a deep grape shade.

Nail Polish for Dark Skin Tones

Dark skin tones

Complement your deep skin tone with nail polishes that offer a punch of high impact color. While every shade of lacquer looks amazing on dark skin, these are our picks for the very best shades.

Pink: Elle says that those with dark skin should stay away from light, baby pinks. “Make sure you’re really wearing pink,” she says, pointing to neons and bright fuchsias.

Purple: Deep skin tones can wear both pastel and dark purples equally well. So how should you narrow it down? Try a universal shade that holds a darker berry-tint to it—Deborah Lippmann suggests trying her shade, “Drunk in Love.”

Blue: Got the blues? It’s time to embrace intense the brightest cobalt shades, which will really stand out next to your skin. If you want to do a baby or heather blue, you need to make sure there isn’t too much of a white undertone to the formula.

Nude: When it comes to picking out the best nude for you, cream and beige nail polishes with sheer, jellylike formulas win again. Elle says that when she’s worked with Kerry Washington, she picked OPI’s “Samoan Sand,” pictured above, for the perfect nude shade.

Red: While almost every red looks amazing with dark skin tones, Lippmann says that deep reds work well with darker skin tones and give “a slight variation.” Think full, rich shades that you might find in gemstones or a glass of amazing red wine.

A Third of Young People Now Identify as Gay or Bisexual, Says New Research

According to new research backed by the BBC and conducted by polling company Ipsos Mori, one in three young people now identifies as gay or bisexual. The survey found that about a third of participants between the ages 16 to 22 self-identify as being attracted to someone of the same sex at least some of the time; with 9 percent identifying themselves as bi, and 14 percent “mostly heterosexual” (but not fully). Meanwhile, 88 percent of baby boomers identified as fully heterosexual, with just one percent considering themselves bi.

The data may seem surprising, but it actually isn’t. This doesn’t mean more kids are being born gay or bi, it just means that young people today feel more empowered to be open about who they are. Researchers surveyed 3,000 UK residents of various age groups (generations Z, Y, X, and baby boomers) and the data clearly showed that older generations identify much more strongly as straight, and younger generations are much likelier to identify themselves as being gay, bi, or sexually fluid.

MORE: This Is When Most People In Relationships Get Bored With Sex

As many saw during Bi Visibility Day, what determines someone’s bisexual or homosexuality is flexible. There’s no greater fear than that of ostracism from society. Schools and social circles are seeing a greater shift towards acceptance, meaning young people have the same fear of isolation for expressing themselves.

I myself wasn’t aware of my own bisexual identity until I was in my twenties. I figured that because I largely preferred male partners and only occasionally felt sexual attraction toward women, I must be heterosexual. I was barraged with messages telling me I was “experimenting.” This is a similar cultural narrative that many young people face when trying to find themselves.

MORE: How to Discover Your Sexual Identity and Make the Most of It

Moreover, the simple boxes of “Bi-sexual,” “Homosexual,” and “Heterosexual” don’t really fit into the flowing nature of sexuality. The data only shows these shifting cultural understandings. Now that we’re beginning to have a greater understanding of sexual identity, people have better understandings of themselves.

It’s wonderful to see the next generation open up about their sexual identities in ways that people previously couldn’t when coming of age. This shows the way that shifting cultural attitudes towards acceptance allows people to openly be themselves. As far as good news goes, this study definitely brings some hope for the future.

Why ‘Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong Is Done Playing the ‘Hot Girl from Work’

Cecily Strong has stepped into the shoes of everyone from controversial conservatives (Megyn Kelly, Melania Trump) to over-the-top television stars (Sofia Vergara, Khloé Kardashian) to beloved pop divas (Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande). But the character she refuses to play is “the hot girl from work,” a recurring archetype for shallow, one-dimensional women she saw time and again at the start of her career.

And though Strong admits that Hollywood has come a long way from the “world of girlfriends and bikinis” she was once familiar with, she isn’t blind to the progress that still needs to be made. “Every year it gets better and you start seeing more representation,” says Strong, who recently partnered with Triscuits to promote its move toward non-GMO products. “But it’s still pretty bad.”

MORE: Why Shay Mitchell Considers Herself the New ‘Girl Next Door’

Strong’s career began in theater, though she always had an interest in comedy after taking her first improv class at 9 years old and growing up watching old “Saturday Night Live” reruns with her mom. After college, she moved cross-country to Los Angeles to try and make it as an actress. However, after continually seeing parts for “hot chicks” and “disappointed girlfriends,” Strong quickly realized that Hollywood wasn’t what she imagined. “I was sort of like, ‘I don’t know where I fit in this world of girlfriends and bikinis.’ That’s not what I do,” Strong says. “It was really difficult to figure out.”

After sticking it out for a few months, Strong moved home to Chicago to pursue a career in improv. And though she quickly climbed the ranks of the comedy world—scoring a coveted spot at The Second City, an esteemed comedy venue in Chicago known for launching the careers of stars like Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey—Strong didn’t find the treatment of women to be any better.

I don’t know where I fit in this world of girlfriends and bikinis. That’s not what I do.

“Even when I was in Second City, I had tough experiences with some of the men, and people telling me, ‘Well, they get to be angry to you,’” Strong says. “A lot of improv theaters are going through fights with sexism and sexual harassment and the way they treat girls and female voices. The improv world has been such a straight white guy thing. You have to expect to deal with the angry man and you have to put up with it. That’s a stock character. That’s a thing we do here.”

And though Strong recognizes that things are steadily shifting for women in Hollywood, with the success of female-led comedies like “Bridesmaids” and “Girls’ Night Out,” she admits that she’s still plagued by the same stereotypical roles she saw earlier in her career. Strong channeled the experience into her iconic “SNL” character, “A One-Dimensional Female Character from a Male-Driven Comedy.”

“You get scripts sent to you and you’re like, ‘Oh my god. This wife doesn’t even get to choose the baby’s name? And she’s not even talking about her pregnancy? The men are? What is going on?’” Strong says. “I’ve had so many auditions where I went in as ‘the hot chick from work,’ and they always say, ‘You guys really need to grow up.’ That’s always the theme. The men get to be the ones going through every journey.”

You can look at so many big movies and all the female roles are not played by comedians because they don’t have to be funny.

Strong believes this overt sexism is why women are rarely cast in comedic roles for big Hollywood blockbusters. “I still read scripts where I’m like, ‘This is a great cast. It’s a great group of people. But this part sucks so I’m not interested,’” Strong says. “You can look at so many big movies and all the female roles are not played by comedians because they don’t have to be funny.”

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

For Strong, progress begins behind-the-scenes by hiring more diverse writers, directors, and producers. “We go into a writers’ room and 80 percent of the people are going to look alike, sound alike, and talk alike,” Strong says. “I always jump at the chance to work with a female director. I think it makes any project better to be more diverse. I think you have better odds.”

That’s always the theme. The men get to be the ones going through every journey.

Strong’s social awareness is why she believes politics and comedy—including “Saturday Night Live,” which returns for its 43rd season on Sunday—are so intertwined, especially in the presidency of Donald Trump. “For whatever reason, we were the one show that got under Trump’s skin the most. But I think we were also there when people absolutely need to laugh,” Strong says. “That’s how people in comedy deal with their lives, anyways. In pain in life, it’s finding a way to laugh at everything. I’ve laughed a lot at funerals. Cry hard and laugh hard.”

And though Strong wants to be make it abundantly clear that “women have been funny forever,” she also acknowledges that there’s a palpable zeitgeist for minorities wanting to see themselves represented. “I think there’s an audience for wanting to hear yourself on stage, and not just yourself being like, ‘That’s me if I were a white straight man,’” Strong says. “You want to hear your voices and your unique experiences.”

5 Celebrity Makeup Tricks from a Kardashian Makeup Artist

You’re likely well-aware that Kim Kardashian employs an entire glam squad to keep her camera-ready. That illustrious group of beauty pros includes Patrick Ta, La Mer Global Makeup Ambassador who, in addition to Kim and sister Kylie Jenner, has also painted the faces of Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, and Olivia Munn—all while earning a massive social media following of his own.

Here, Ta shares five no-nonsense tips that will make your daily routine easier and a little more glamourous.

Prep Your Skin

“Even those with oily skin can be a little dry,” says Ta. “I always want to make sure that skin is nice and moisturized prior to applying foundation, because the more plump your skin is, the more natural and flawless the skin looks. No cakeyness!” La Mer The Moisturizing Gel is one of his favorites to hydrate all skin types without the shine or grease factor.

Contour First

Contrary to popular belief, Ta believes it’s best to apply contour prior to foundation to achieve a healthy, lit-from-within glow. Brushing the foundation over contour decreases the chance of stark bronze lines on cheekbones and makes the tan appear way more natural. “The Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate blends out nicely, especially when used with a fluffy brush,” Ta advises.

Mix It Up

“I like for skin to look like skin—healthy, glowy and gorgeous,” Ta says. “Mixing a face oil with foundation helps to break down the formula so you can really see the complexion.” Remember, the more oil you add, the less coverage you’ll have, so if you’re looking to heavily camouflage imperfections, just add a drop. However, if you’re looking for a barely there foundation, mix in a generous dime-sized dollop.

Make Brows Bold

Ta favors full brows to frame the face. “Apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade with a small angled brush, and brush forward the end of your brow in small strokes,” he recommends. “Those brows will not move all day!” Be advised that a little bit does go a long way.

Always Highlight

Everyone wants a romantic, candle-lit glow without the overdone look or cake-factor.  Ta recommends setting a highlighter with a mist. “This will break down the particles a bit, while keeping all of the beautiful sparkle.”

The number of natural disasters that have occurred over the past month has been pretty much astronomical. September gave us five hurricanes—two at category five—and people are still recovering from the hard hits that were Harvey, Irma, Jose, Katia, and Maria. Puerto Rico is in now particularly dire straits since experiencing Hurricane Maria less than a week after the arrivals of Harvey and Irma.

Bella Thorne Talks Insecurities While Posing 100-Percent Nude

Bella Thorne is baring it all—literally and figuratively. The 19-year-old actress recently posed 100-percent nude for GQ México‘s October issue. And though Thorne’s pictures look banging, as expected, she took to Instagram afterward to talk about insecurities and explain how she doesn’t always see the beauty people often associate her with.

On Thursday, Thorne Instagrammed a shot of her completely naked (aside from a pair of strappy stilettos, a diamond bracelet, and a few rings) while sitting in a chair with her arm strategically placed to cover her nipple. In her caption, Thorne revealed that she specifically asked GQ Mexico not to retouch the photos, so she could prove to her fans that she has imperfections like anyone else. “I specifically asked for no re touching on this photo, and lemme tell you I have insecurities, about pretty much everything,” Thorne wrote. “That’s natural & that’s human. You might look at this photo and think oh shush bella, but just know everytime someone looks in the mirror they simply don’t see what everyone else sees.”

Thorne, who also posed topless and in a pair of lingerie bottoms for another picture, wanted her fans to understand that everyone, no matter how confident they may seem, has insecurities. Thorne also sought to break down the facade of celebrity by admitting the natural vain desire to have her photos retouched. “As a public persona you know naturally that everytime you shoot with a magazine there is always small retouching,” she wrote. “Cuz yeah if they show my acne scars or a wrinkle in my forehead or my teeth aren’t perfectly white, people will look at the photo and say no she’s not perfect and usually most people don’t want the public trashing and I get it.”

Thorne ended her caption with a powerful statement on how she isn’t perfect, despite the public’s misconception that she might be. Of course, in true Bella Thorne fashion, she also preemptively shut down trolls who may criticize her looks. “But fuck it I’m here to tell you that’s right I’m not FUCKING PERFECT,” she wrote. “IM A HUMAN BEING AND IM REAL. So hip hop your asses over the fence and GET OVER IT.”

Sure, Thorne’s had some controversial behavior in the past, but when it comes to insecurities, the girl has it right.

7 In-Flight Beauty Tips Straight From a Pro Crew Member

Even on the shortest flights, the bummer combo of altitude and dry, recycled cabin air can wreak havoc on skin. Ever wonder how flight attendants manage to protect their skin against the high skies? Well, we went straight to the source and asked Emirates Cabin Crew member Ashleigh Joseph how she deals.

If you’ve ever flown with the Dubai-based airline, you’re aware that its crew members are famously polished and put-together, with impeccable skin, hair, and makeup from takeoff to landing. Joseph let us in on her secrets for air travel prep, in-flight fixes, and post-landing recovery tips. Here, grab her top 7 tips to smooth beauty sailing at 35,000 feet and above.

Preparation is Key

“Moisturizing lotion, lip balm and body spray are all musts when it comes to flying,” says Joseph. “With the air 37,000 feet up being quite dry, it can be harsh on the skin. Use a good facial mask 2-3 times a week to help keep your skin in really good condition and use rose water when flying, which can be taken in a refillable spray container and used throughout the flight.”

Stay Hydrated

Between eating at 4.30am and traveling across the world’s time zones, Joseph’s one constant is keeping her body hydrated at all times. She recommends lots of green tea, water with lemon or mint and fruits and vegetables to boost her immune system.

Prime Time

“One thing this job has taught me is to use primer, primer and more primer before applying makeup!” she says. Splurge on a primer that will keep your makeup in place and Joseph promises, your makeup won’t budge the entire flight.

Go Natural

“If you do wear makeup, make sure your look is natural,” Joseph suggests. “And avoid waterproof mascara, as this dries out your lashes and is harder to remove after a flight or sleeping onboard.” But one beauty item that Joseph calls her “best friend” is lip liner. “Lip liners help attain and accentuate the wonderful ‘Dubai lip’ most are trying to achieve.”

Set Your Makeup

Joseph credits a setting spray with keeping her look fresh, despite the long-haul flights. “It requires minimal replenishment throughout the flight and that’s why I love it!” Who doesn’t want to come off of a 12-hour flight looking completely relaxed and impossibly fresh looking?

MORE: WTF Is an Essence and Should You Be Using One?

Pack the Essentials

“If I look in my cabin bag right now, I’ll have at least three of each: roll on perfume, a shower cap and a sewing kit with spare buttons,” she says. A long flight is no reason to ruin your blowout.

Keep it Moving

One thing Joseph always does post-flight, is fit in a little workout. “Once you land, aim to get a bit of exercise, even if it’s just a brisk walk,” she recommends. “Exercise can mobilize the extra fluid.” No puffiness here!

Elle Fanning Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction When Gust of Wind Blows Up Dress

Fall fashion is upon us, but Elle Fanning‘s latest wardrobe mishap is convincing us that trench coats—cute as they are—may not be the best outfit choice this season, at least if you’re planning to wear nothing underneath. On Thursday, the 19-year-old actress suffered a major wardrobe malfunction when a gust of wind blew up her trench coat, exposing her underwear. Luckily, Fanning quickly recovered like the boss she is.

The mishap occurred as Fanning was filming a scene for an as-of-yet untitled  Woody Allen film outside the Plaza Athenee Hotel in New York City. For the scene, Fanning kept things minimal with damp hair, nude flats, and a shin-length trench coat that she basically wore as a dress.

Sometime in the night, as Fanning made her way down the street for the scene, a powerful gust of wind blew up her trench coat and exposed the actress’s colorful pair of floral underwear. Like the professional she is, Fanning laughed off the moment and simply readjusted her coat to cover her derrière.

It’s entirely possible that the whole mishap was concocted for the movie, which kudos to Fanning for her natural reaction. But it’s also likely that mother nature wasn’t on the Fanning’s side. Either way, when you’re a critic-favorite actress like Fanning, a tiny peek at your underwear is NBD in the long run.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Totally Doable Glam Skeleton Halloween Makeup

We’re going to go ahead and squash the school of thought that last-minute Halloween costumes always suck. On the contrary, if your makeup is on point, your whole look will scream “I worked on this for weeks.” A full face of black and white makeup can easily transform you into a totally glamorous skeleton, for example.

Think a makeup DIY like this is super hard? Think again. We’re breaking this costume down for you from head to toe—and it only takes about an hour to put the whole thing together. Get ready to go super spooky (and glam) this Halloween.

What you’ll need for the makeup:

  • Light foundation
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  • Black eyeshadow
  • Eyeshadow brush
  • White eyeliner
  • Angled eyeliner brush

What you’ll need for the outfit:

  • Black leggings
  • A black, long-sleeve top or blouse
  • Black booties
  • Optional: leather jacket

The eyes

Step 1: Apply light-colored foundation all over your face.

Step 2: Outline your eye sockets with your favorite black liquid eyeliner. The circles will look best if they’re not perfect, so don’t worry if they aren’t exactly the same shape.

Step 3: Fill in the eye sockets with black eyeshadow using an eyeshadow brush.

THE NOSE

Step 1: Using the liquid eyeliner, draw the letter M across the center of your nose. The sides of the M should wrap around your nostrils.

Step 2: Fill in the letter M with the black eyeshadow.

The teeth

Step 1: Color your lips white with the white eyeliner pencil.

Step 2: Using the liquid eyeliner, draw a line from the corner of your mouth toward your ear, about three inches, on both sides.

Step 3: Using the liquid eyeliner, draw a vertical line down the center of your mouth, from just above your top lip to just past your bottom lip.

Step 4: Draw six more vertical lines about half an inch apart to the left of the center line.

Step 5: Repeat on the right side to finish your teeth.

The jaw and cheekbones

Step 1: Using the liquid eyeliner, outline two hollow areas on the side of your face; one hollow area should be close to your teeth and the other hollow area should be closer to your ear, on your cheekbone.

Step 2: Draw a straight line that connects the two hollow areas.

Step 3: Draw matching hollow areas and the connecting line on the other side of your face.

Step 4: Fill in all four hollow areas (two on each side) with the black eyeshadow and darken the straight lines that connect them.

Step 5: Connect the last two top teeth on both sides of the mouth to the hollow area closest to your teeth.

The details

Here are a few more tips to make your glam skeleton look really pop:

  • Using the black eyeshadow, shade underneath your jawline and down your neck. Your neck will appear more emaciated if you concentrate the shadow on the sides of your neck while leaving a section of natural skin visible down the center.
  • Lightly shade around the hairline with black eyeshadow.
  • Using an angled eyeliner brush, pull the excess eyeshadow from the inner corners of your eyebrows up and into a curved line on both sides.
  • Similarly, pull the excess eyeshadow on the outside of your eye sockets into several lines, toward your hairline.

Happy Halloween!

10 Halloween Cocktails That’re Super Sophisticated (but Still Keep with the Theme)

If you ask us, Halloween is kinda overrated. The rushing around finding a costume (usually at the last minute), throwing around tons of cash on something you’re only going to wear once and fretting over whether our hair and makeup still looks spooky and on point is just so stressful. Is it any wonder everyone feels the need to drink their faces off on Oct. 31? We’d much rather channel our energy into perfecting the perfect Halloween-y cocktail than the perfect costume.

Tarte Accidentally Leaked 1,400 Customer Addresses Because of a Tech Glitch

Tarte is back in the headlines less than a week after landing in hot water over a racist meme post. This time, the makeup brand is the center of a “security breach” that exposed the personal information of over 1,000 customers. I took it upon myself to find out what happened and it’s a wild ride, so buckle up.

First, people who had recently ordered from the company woke up the morning of September 25 to find upwards of 60 emails from tarte. At first glance, it looks like an order confirmation that was accidentally sent over 50 times. But looking closer, you can see that each email is addressed to someone new and holds different confirmation numbers.

Reddit user @hopelessmuse shared via Makeup Addiction, “When you clicked on the order status link in the e-mail, it took you to the Tarte website and gave you even more personal info: the last 4 digits of the credit card they used and their personal phone number.”

Others also claimed to see home addresses, so I kept digging.

https://twitter.com/Chelated_Zinc/status/912284914246209538

When @hopelessmuse finally reached out to Tarte, she reported that the brand encouraged consumers to simply delete the emails in question: “they are aware of the situation and dealing with it. i asked how they were dealing with it and was told they are telling everyone simply to delete the e-mails. You have the identities and personal info of more than 50 people and you expect everyone to simply delete them from their inbox and be okay with that?”

MORE: Garnier’s Cult-Favorite Micellar Cleansing Water Is Allegedly Contaminated

Hopelessmuse’s reddit post has since gotten over 5,000 upvotes while Twitter has also exploded with questions for the company. For instance, user @Kassbah tweeted Tarte asking what was going on and then later posted screenshots of the emails they sent to her. Apparently, there was an issue with Tarte’s “shipment notification tool” that caused an isolated event during the weekend.

https://twitter.com/Kassbah/status/913471913602797568 https://twitter.com/Kassbah/status/913471913602797568

But what exactly happened? What is a “shipment notification tool” and was sensitive information of real customers actually released? By now, Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter users have gone into panic mode with talk of canceling credit cards and filing law suits. I took the time to read most of the comments before coming to a clear conclusion. Ultimately, this isn’t a serious mishap (like Equifax and their Social Security blunder) because the information in the emails isn’t personally identifiable information. This means what’s in the emails could be found online, on a receipt or in a phone book.

MORE: 8 Beauty Products That Are Worth the Splurge

However, this could still cause potential damage if phishers use the basic information to con companies and online sites into releasing more information on the original person. To truly get to the bottom of things, I emailed the company for answers. Candace Craig Bulishak, tarte CMO, copied a statement from James Novara, tarte’s VP of e-commerce & IT, citing a software mishap that affected 1,400 orders:

We take this situation seriously and, in addition to fully refunding the affected customers’ orders, we are sending some new holiday items to make up for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. We want to assure our customers that no information was disclosed that would expose them to a heightened risk of identity theft or similar harm,” wrote Novara.

Reddit user @mathandmascara also says tarte sent out an email today with the subject reading “mathandmascara, Important News About Your Account.” She thought it was going to be an apology or explanation for what happened, but instead, they told her to sign up for their new rewards program, which requires people to reset their passwords. To this @mathandmascara aptly replied, “Really Tarte? Making YOUR customer change their password disguised as a rewards program because YOU had a security breach? That’s just shady.”

In light of the recent Equifax hack, to see a company skirt an issue that doesn’t make anyone feel secure is a little alarming. Only time will tell if this glitch affects tarte’s future business.

Gigi and Bella Hadid Wore the Same Dress Weeks Apart from Each Other

As sisters, it makes sense that Gigi and Bella Hadid dig into each other’s closets from time to time. That theory was confirmed recently when Gigi stepped out in the exact same dress Bella wore weeks earlier.

On Wednesday, Gigi turned heads when she was photographed in Paris wearing an elegant $1,995 Brandon Maxwell dress with a plunging neckline and long, white sleeves. The older Hadid sister, who wore the look to a launch party for her new jewelry collection with Messika, paired her ensemble with a stack of Gigi x Messika rings and a diamond choker, estimated at $93,000.

And though Gigi looked stunning in the all-white ensemble, it wasn’t the first time Hadid superfans saw the dress. Gigi’s younger sister Bella wore the dress weeks earlier at Maxwell’s runway show at New York Fashion Week. Instead of tying her hair in a slicked-back bun like her older sister, Bella styled her locks in a loose, tousled look. She also wore the dress cinched at the waist with a near-invisible white belt.

As if we didn’t need another reason to love the Hadid sisters, their outfit sharing-speaks to anyone who’s ever stolen an item of clothing from their sibling’s closet—though it is a little rude that our family hand-me-downs never include haute couture runway dresses.

Serena Williams Just Got the Most Badass Waist-Length Braids

Serena Williams is celebrating motherhood with a brand-new hairstyle. On Thursday, the 36-year-old tennis champ—who welcomed her first child, daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., earlier this month—posted an Instagram debuting a fresh set of waist-length braids.

In the picture, Williams, dressed in a black tank top and short-shorts, posed for a mirror selfie with one hand on her hip and the other gripping her iPhone. Her braids, which were tied in a high ponytail, cascaded down her shoulders, falling just shy of her hips. Williams left the Instagram caption-less, but that didn’t stop her followers from flooding the photos with phrases like “Snatched!” and “Work it.”

The hair selfie is the first time Williams has shared a full-body photo since giving birth to her newborn, who she shares with fiancé and Reddit co-founder, Alex Ohanian. Fans also posted plenty of comments gushing about how gorgeous Williams looks after giving birth just two weeks ago.

While we don’t advocate pressuring women to flatten their tummies at any time, particularly right after giving birth, we can all agree that Williams looks beautiful under any circumstance. And while we’ll stay away from commenting on her figure (as we wish everyone else would), what we feel totally comfortable praising are her epic braids.

7 Rules of Flirting in When You’re In a Relationship

Dating someone who’s naturally flirtatious can trigger feelings of jealousy and insecurity. But flirting is so subjective that it can be tough to define and draw boundaries. Do you consider smiling and complimenting strangers flirting? Or does flirting usually involve touching and being sexually suggestive to friends, coworkers, or acquaintances?

The boundaries around flirting outside of a monogamous relationship need to be discussed and decided by the people in the relationship, because some may see their partner’s kindness and charm as flirtation, whereas others may be totally fine with that stuff. Setting standards around flirting and communicating on the subject is key—especially if you or your partner is a flirt.

To get the conversation started, here are seven rules suggested by experts about think about flirting when you’re in an exclusive relationship.

Don’t Touch or Over-Compliment

It’s okay to hug and say nice things to people. Behaving warmly and affectionately is a personality trait, not necessarily being flirtatious. But matchmaker and CEO of Lasting Connections Sameera Sullivan says to be careful with whom you’re doing this. “It’s wrong when you get touchy with the opposite sex, commenting on their physical attributes or beauty. Being too touchy-feely and over-complimenting is going overboard. Try to walk that fine line.”

Be Self-Aware of Your Flirting

If you’re a flirty person, try to make a point of reserving your flirtations for friends, not eligible singles who may possibly feel seduced by the flirtation or take it to mean something more. Even if they know you’re taken, they might start to think you’re interested in cheating. “All flirtation should be playful and in good fun without any suggestive connotations to invite the other party to pursue or act on said flirtation,” says relationship expert Margaux Cassuto.

MORE: 9 Body Language Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Relationship

Skip Flirting That Could Hurt Your S.O.

“There should be absolutely no flirtation with anybody who you feel even mildly attracted to or have been romantically linked with, whether in rumor or reality,” says Cassuto. There’s a fine line between trust and disrespect, and one that needs to be drawn before it’s crossed. Regardless of whether you or your partner is the bigger flirt, you both need to ultimately show each other that the relationship is most important—both to each other and to the world.

Be Careful With Texts and Emails

Lines tend to blur when it comes to technology. A playful text can be interpreted sexually, especially with someone you actually do have a slight attraction to. “We all text and email colleagues and acquaintances, but when you start getting too suggestive or sexual via text or email, that’s crossing a flirting line,” says Sullivan. Ask yourself if you would send a text or email that you wouldn’t want your partner to see. If you wouldn’t, that’s a sign you definitely shouldn’t do it.

Voice Your Concerns

If your partner’s the flirtier one, be clear about what you do and don’t feel comfortable with. Cassuto says that you should never be so permissive and overly “cool” about your partner’s behavior that you end up feeling insecure in your own relationship. So make sure you are clear from the start. If you hold back from saying anything, your partner will think you don’t have a problem and continue to do it.

Respect Your Partner’s Feelings

If you’re the flirt and your partner says something about it, listen to them. You don’t have to become cold and aloof, but you may want to tone down blatant suggestiveness or being overly friendly, suggests Lisa Concepcion, relationship expert and founder of LoveQuest Coaching. “Never flirt just to push buttons, either,” she says. “Revenge flirting is passive-aggressive and starts drama. Be an adult and discuss any issues openly with your partner.”

Be Ready to Leave the Relationship

If setting boundaries and voicing your concerns doesn’t work, then it may be that you and your partner see flirting differently and aren’t able to get on the same page, in which case, you could be better off single. “Oftentimes people who flirt accuse the offended partner of being jealous or insecure,” says Concepcion. “If you’re not liking what you see and feel disrespected, love yourself enough to leave the relationship. You don’t have to hate the person, you just have a different standard and style.”

Steal Suki Waterhouse’s Brilliant DIY Skin-Exfoliating Hack

With everyone spilling their beauty secrets online, it can be hard to come by ones that actually work. Yet, 25 year-old actress Suki Waterhouse— and new face of French beauty brand, Laura Mercier— just stunned us with her go-to beauty hack.

 Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

MORE: Catherine Zeta-Jones Says Pumpkin Is Her Secret Ingredient For Healthy Skin

Anyone with dry skin can attest to the frustration of testing different methods for a clear and refreshed complexion. Our body is constantly producing new skin cells, which means the old, dead ones get pushed to the forefront and sometimes cause acne. What’s one way to pick up those dead cells and make room for healthy ones?

Enter modern-day beauty, Waterhouse, who told Harper’s Bazaar in a recent interview that she keeps baking soda in her purse for facial emergencies. To create the homemade exfoliator, she suggests mixing “a tiny bit of baking soda into your moisturizer and then you mush it all in and wash it off.”

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

In addition to its abrasive qualities, baking soda’s moisturizing properties also aid in calming irritated skin. But don’t go baking soda crazy warns Waterhouse; “I don’t do it very often at all, maybe once a month?” Constant exfoliation can damage skin more than heal it, so try not to over-do it. Alternatively, there are a host of exfoliating products that also cater to specific skin types.

But when you’re on-the-go or your skin could use serious stripping, Waterhouse’s time (and money) saving trick could be your best friend. With skin like hers, I think we’ll take her word for it, and try this next time we’re in a bind.

Foodie Crush

Salt Lake City–based Heidi Larsen started FoodieCrush in 2011 with the intention of creating “an online magazine featuring the web’s most innovative food bloggers, their recipes, and photography” after working as an art director for various regional Utah magazines. Now, her blog features a combo of her own amazing recipes, along with other food bloggers she’s following and loving right now.
