People Think Bella Hadid Dissed The Weeknd’s Split from Selena Gomez with This Petty Selfie

Bella Hadid‘s selfies usually consist of model-perfect angles, A-plus lighting, and killer glam. But for some fans, the 21-year-old model’s latest Instagram picture can be summed up in one word: petty.

On Monday—shortly after news broke that her ex, The Weeknd, and his then-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, called it quits after nearly 10 months of dating—Hadid posted a picturesque snapshot of her sipping a glass of red wine in Tuscany. The picture, which featured a gorgeous Tuscan backdrop, showed Hadid, dressed in a pin-strip skirt and button-up top, sitting in a chair with her lips pursed and her sunglasses tilted ever-so-slightly. “🖼💙🖼,” she captioned the photo.

Considering the selfie’s timing and Hadid’s cheeky smirk, fans immediately interpreted the photo as shade toward The Weeknd. To fully understand the significance of Hadid’s selfie, here’s a refresher on the Hadid-Weeknd-Gomez love triangle: In November 2016, Hadid and The Weeknd called it quits after roughly a year-and-a-half of dating. Three months later, The Weeknd was spotted making out with Gomez outside a restaurant. Then, after nearly 10 months of dating, Gomez and The Weeknd broke up, amid rumors that the “Fetish” singer rekindled things with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

Given the déjà vu-nature of The Weeknd’s breakup, many fans considered Hadid’s selfie as a celebration of the “karma” that eventually found her ex-boyfriend. Here are a few comments praising Hadid for her petty behavior:

“Standing there just thinking how the weeknd is feeling after seeing those sel and justin pics together.”

“watching karma catching you like a queen drinking wine in Italy.”

“Watching karma do it’s thang like.”

“When karma finally arrives to those who hurt you’ face… #Queen”

“KEEP SIPPIN THAT TEA BOO YOU WON!”

However, it’s important to note that Hadid’s shade is based entirely on the speculation of fans. Neither she nor The Weeknd have publicly spoken out about his recent breakup. Still, if Hadid’s Tuscan selfie proves anything, it’s that she’s living her best life sipping red wine with no F-boys in sight.

9 Signs Your Relationship is Past its Expiration Date, According to Real Women

Most of us have been in a relationship that lasted a little (or a lot) longer than it should have. Breakups suck, so who can blame us for wanting to avoid them? Still, staying in a dysfunctional, unhappy couple longer than necessary can be even worse than ripping the band-aid off and just calling it quits. And watching someone else be in denial about the state of a romance that’s clearly been dead or dying for awhile is a special kind of agony. You want to shout: “There are so many other great people out there! You don’t have to settle for a nonexistent sex life, petty bickering, or constant tension!”

Below, nine women who’ve successfully pulled the plug on flailing relationships offer their insights as to exactly what pushed them over the edge to end it.

Our inability to move on from the past meant it was time to end it.

Your Conversations Repeat Themselves.

“It’s not healthy when you keep arguing about the same things over and over instead of resolving them, or there’s a fixation by one partner on past relationships or even friendships with other people. The inability to focus on the present relationship and to move on from the past was definitely a sign for me that it was time to end it with my ex.” –Anna, 28, Washington, D.C.

You Feel Like They’re More into it Than You.

“Every serious relationship I’ve been in has invariably come to an end because the other person was clearly serious while I was wondering if I could do better—no one wants to say it, but that’s usually the truth, isn’t it? This is going to sound mean, but I would come to the conclusion that the things I admired about the person weren’t enough to outweigh my perception of their shortcomings and eccentricities. Red flags were when I found myself checking out or flirting with other people, deliberately not looking at my phone for hours and hours, and at times not feeling any physical attraction. I’d end it because I didn’t want to waste that person’s time, and because I didn’t want to settle.” –Amelia, 30, New York City

A red flag is when they start to disinterest you sexually.

The Physical Spark is Gone.

“It’s definitely concerning when you’ve been in a serious relationship with the person you supposedly love, and you realize you’re just not in the mood for sex, or even hope you don’t have to have it. A red flag is they start to disgust, repel, or just disinterest you sexually, and their fetishes or sexual preferences no longer appeal to you. Also, when cuddling becomes forced and not your go-to position in bed, and sleeping next to each other becomes more stressful than relaxing and natural, that’s worth paying attention to. I remember one of the clear signs when I was at the end of my relationship was not being able to sleep well together at night—losing that ease that comes so naturally when you’re truly comfortable with each other.” –Jen, 25, Los Angeles

You’re Lonely Even When You’re Together.

“When I started feeling like my boyfriend of four years and I were no longer on the same team, I knew it was really time to get out. Instead of taking each other’s sides during disagreements with family members or rooting for each other when one of us was stressed out or struggling with something, it felt like we were each very much alone. We lived together, and yet I was lonely in our relationship.” –Caitlin, 26, New York City

MORE: 8 Foolproof Signs It’s Time to Take a Break from Dating

“It’s time to rethink the relationship when little things really get under your skin.”

They Go from Annoying You Sometimes to Constantly.

“It’s probably time to rethink or end the relationship when little things that normally wouldn’t bother you really start to get under your skin all the time. For example, when I moved into my ex-boyfriend’s apartment, I was the one cooking all of the time. That didn’t bother me, but what did was when he would comment and criticize. I remember once, he was annoyed that I didn’t fully wait for the oven to preheat to reheat pizza. It was a small thing, but it really bothered me, and it was one of many things bugging me. When it gets to this point, arguing over the proper way to reheat pizza—something so trivial but that we both love—it’s time to take a break or move on!” –Sarah, 26, Boston

Your Values Clash.

“I recently got out of a relationship with someone who had a very strained relationship with his family, and as a result, was very disinterested and uninvested in my family, who I’m close with. Every family has problems! I accepted his relationship with his family and the distance, but the unwillingness to accept or understand that family is important to me really put a strain on our relationship. When major values like that are out of sync, whether it’s family, faith, empathy, or whatever, that’s hard to overcome. ” –Kristina, 25, New York City

I decided to end things when I realized I didn’t want the life he had planned for us at all.

Your Future Visions Aren’t the Same.

“When I moved to Manhattan after college, my boyfriend and I continued to date long-distance. Eventually, I realized that he had built an entire life for us—including a condo in the suburbs near both of our families, but far from my New York City career. It was as though he thought my city life was a phase, and eventually I’d snap out of it and realize I belonged with him, in the house he had furnished for our life together, but without my input. It was hard, but I decided to end things when I realized just how much I didn’t want the life he had planned for us—at all. Months later, he would offer to ‘give up everything he had worked so hard for’ to live in New York with me. I declined.” –Kate, 29, New York City

Your Partner Doesn’t Seem Invested in What Matters to You.

“When the relationship is unbalanced in that it’s either all about him or all about you, that’s a lose-lose situation. I’ve been on both sides of this with the same person and I wish I paid attention to it earlier. When your partner doesn’t prioritize what’s important to you, but expects you to prioritize everything important to him—hanging out with his friends, meeting his family, traveling where he wants to, or even simple plans on a Saturday night—but creates a big ordeal when you mention anything that you want or is important to you. When you’re expected to go along with whatever he expects and wants, but he doesn’t feel any of those obligations, that’s a huge red flag and makes it hard, if not impossible, for the relationship to endure.” –Isabel, 27, Portland, ME

When I started feeling bad about myself because of things he said, I realized I had to leave.

You Never Feel Relaxed Together.

“I finally knew I had to pull the plug when my relationship no longer made me happy and felt like a constant struggle. My ex had a lot of anger and resentment towards me and the issues I thought we’d resolved, and when that manifested in constant fights and stress rather than relaxing times and love, I knew I had to make a change. Ultimately, when I started feeling bad about myself because of things he said, I realized I had to leave. It’s not worth losing yourself or constantly feeling bad about yourself because you’re stuck in a relationship that’s past its expiration date!” –Sam, 30, New York City

How Mandy Moore Avoided Body Image Pressures Growing Up

Mandy Moore first entered public consciousness in 1999, with her insatiably catchy bubblegum-pop hit, “Candy.” And though it seemed like Moore was destined for pop stardom—à la her peers, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera—she wasn’t ready to define herself, pivoting a few years later to film with ‘00s classics like “A Walk to Remember” and “The Princess Diaries.”

Now, 18 years since her pop debut, Moore is surprising audiences again as Rebecca Pearson, the messy-yet-put-together mother (and grandmother) on NBC’s smash family drama, “This Is Us.” Moore’s career-redefining journey (essentially, her own version of the McConaissance) might be the reason she recently partnered with Her Life Her Adventures, a campaign encouraging women to learn about their birth control options to prepare them for whatever lies ahead.

“I’m a woman first and foremost so I am very passionate about championing and supporting one another,” says Moore via phone.

For Moore, that path is currently her career. And though Moore hints that motherhood is on the horizon (she recently became engaged to Dawes frontman, Taylor Goldsmith), she doesn’t see her career slowing down after starting a family. She references her “This Is Us” character, a mother of three who put her singing career on hold in the 1980s to raise children, as a testament to how expectations for women are “changing and shifting.”

Women’s plans, adventures, and choices of what they want to do with their lives come in all different packages.

“Times are definitely changing and shifting,” Moore says. “There’s no right or wrong answer. Women’s plans, adventures, and choices of what they want to do with their lives come in all different shapes, forms, and packages. My character on the show had kids at 30, but I think the idea of having to completely put her career and that part of her life and who she is on the back burner and compartmentalize that isn’t necessarily a factor anymore.”

While Moore admits that she wouldn’t fully know what it’s like to balance work and family until it happens, she credits working moms in her life (including her own) for proving that balance is possible.

“I feel really lucky to have a ton of incredible women that provide great examples for me of kind of doing a little bit of everything—of being moms and still being really successful working women,” Moore says. “I’m trying my best to do and have it all, but not put that pressure on myself because I know it’s overwhelming. I’m just going to take it as it comes.”

I feel the best about myself when I’m taking care of myself through respect.

As for how she predicts she’ll fare as mom, Moore noted that she’ll be discussed birth control options with her children, something she confirmed with a resounding, “Ab-so-lutely.” Another lesson Moore will likely instill in her children is body-positivity, a topic she recently made headlines for when she shut down body-shamers on Instagram who claimed that she Photoshopped a picture to make herself look slimmer.

I felt the need to be entirely transparent,” Moore says. “I know social media is not reality, but that’s where people took it. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything, but I felt compelled to.”

For Moore, social media and a “curated look” at people’s lives are things she’s still getting used to, considering she grew up in a time when Instagram wasn’t a reality.

I feel pretty lucky that I’ve kind of managed to make my way through the industry relatively unscathed.

“We’re humans. We struggle with body image and social media doesn’t necessarily help that,” Moore says. “I think you have to take [social media] with a grain of salt, and sometimes take a minute to detox from all of that because it is a curated look at someone’s life. It’s not necessarily reality. I’m still trying to learn those lessons as well. I’m really grateful I’m not a teenager growing up with social media nowadays because man, I’m sure it’s quite a trip.”

Moore credits the lack of social media in her childhood as the one of the reasons she was able to grow up in the entertainment industry “relatively unscathed” of body image pressures. However, despite admitting that she too was an “impressionable teenager,” Moore recognizes that her experience wasn’t the norm of other stars in her time.

I think you have to take [social media] with a grain of salt…because it is a curated look at someone’s life.

“I feel pretty lucky that I’ve kind of managed to make my way through the industry relatively unscathed,” Moore says. “No one has ever put any pressure on me to look a certain way or dress a certain way. Certainly that’s still the case these days. But as a long impressionable teenager and a young woman in the industry, I appreciated and was grateful for that. Even in the moment I could recognize like, ‘Ah this isn’t really the norm. This isn’t the same experience every young woman has.’ I always felt pretty comfortable in my skin.”

While Moore admits she experiences body insecurities like anyone else, she’s found a solution to deal with it all: respecting her physical and mental health.

“Not to say I don’t have those struggles and get down on myself sometimes, but I’m a big proponent of moderation and I feel the best about myself when I’m taking care of myself through respect,” Moore says. “Whether that’s eating healthy and trying to get exercise or taking care of my mental health, I think it all factors in.”

The Exact Time Abbi Jacobson Predicts ‘Broad City’ Will End

We’re not sure we were prepared for the responses we got when we got a chance to chat with “Broad City” star Abbi Jacobson, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t delightful as anything. Jacobson is back on the ground putting together a comedy festival on a plane (yeah, you read that right) in partnership with Virgin Airlines. Called #LiveWithVirgin, the festival’s lineup was curated by Jacobson herself and a group of hand-picked and oh-so-talented comedians got to regale a group of strangers in the sky. Jacobson even got to document part of her experience on social media with funny Instagram posts to keep those of us with our feet on the ground entertained and in the loop. If that’s not the best way to fly, we don’t know what is.

Jacobson opened up to SheKnows, StyleCaster’s sister site, in an exclusive email interview about a number of topics, including the aforementioned exciting #LiveWithVirgin event she participated in shortly before the premiere of the animated film she lent her voice to this summer, “The Lego Ninjago Movie.” The one thing we were most curious to know about was “Broad City.” After three seasons and with a fourth on the air, this show has become a massive piece of pop culture. That said, with Jacobson and co-star Ilana Glazer‘s respective careers taking off in a number of different ways, it’s only fair to wonder if this comedic duo has an end date in sight. When asked whether she and Glazer had ever discussed the timeline of “Broad City,” Jacobson said, “It’s something Ilana and I talk about, but I don’t think it’s a specific thing or event. It’s more us discussing the show’s quality control. There’s a point where a show just shouldn’t keep going, and I think that’s when we’d end it. It would always be a creative decision and not be about our careers—our other projects revolve around the show, and not the other way around.”

Abbi Jacobson discusses Broad City

Image: Giphy

We also learned what Jacobson’s feelings were about airing “Broad City” during a Trump presidency, an outcome that was poked fun at during the 2016 election and then was heavily discussed in one of Glazer and Jacobson’s darker “Broad City” moments. Here’s what she had to say: “The characters are living in a world that is existing within ours, and to write how they are feeling and their frustrations has only amplified ours. There’s so much to say right now and so much to consume and learn. It’s hard to pinpoint what to look at to either ease the pain of the current climate or to stand up to it. We tried to do both with this season, and it was definitely harder because it is actually personal.”

These were just some of the many illuminating, hilarious and exciting answers Jacobson gave during her exclusive interview with us. Check out the other things we learned after speaking to her.

SheKnows: What joke got the most laughs during #LiveFromVirgin?

Abbi Jacobson: To be honest, I’m not sure. Laughs are hard to quantify via social media!

SK: What is the biggest difference between “Broad City” Abbi and IRL Abbi when it comes to traveling? Who’s the nervous flyer? Who’s checking in for their flight early? Who’s smuggling liquid in a travel-safe-size bottle from outside the terminal onto the plane?

AJ: I would say probably “Broad City” Abbi is more nervous and anxious. I fly a lot these days, so I’m getting more used to the ins and outs of feeling comfortable. I try to plan as much as I can, but I think the core of who I am can’t help but get in the situation where I am sprinting for a flight. It’s the Jacobson curse.

There’s a point where a show just shouldn’t keep going, and I think that’s when we’d end it.

SK: What is the most beautiful thing about comedy?

AJ: Comedy can simultaneously allow you to dive headfirst into the world’s pain and escape it.

Glazier and Jacobson high five

Image: Giphy

SK: What’s it like corralling a bunch of comedians for one common goal?

AJ: Pretty wonderful. I’ve had the opportunity to do this in a bunch of different ways, whether it be for Virgin or “Broad City” or other projects. Collaboration is so essential and satisfying to me. I love when individual voices can make up something bigger and still maintain their originality.

The characters are living in a world that is existing within ours, and to write how they are feeling and their frustrations has only amplified ours.

SK: Please tell us everything you can about the binge-drinking princess TV show you’re currently working on because we’re already obsessed.

AJ: I think you mean in “Disenchantment?” I don’t know how much I can say about this show, but the experience thus far (I’ve been recording since about February) has been absolutely incredible. It’s just a dream job with the best of the best in animation and comedy. It’s such a collaborative environment and I’ve gotten to bring a lot to the character. I can’t wait for it to come out!

SK: What characteristics of your zodiac sign do you embody or relate to the most?

AJ: Oh boy, I should know more about this. I’m an Aquarius. I think we tend to be very creative, free-thinking and emotional? I think I’m a bit of those things.

Comedy can simultaneously allow you to dive headfirst into the world’s pain and escape it.

SK: What’s a typical daily routine look like for you?

AJ: A typical day for me changes a lot over the course of the year, depending on what phase we’re in on “Broad City” and then if I’m working on something else, so I have a hard time forming routines. But no matter what, I always start with coffee. I’m pretty addicted, and I listen to the podcast “The Daily” as I’m getting ready. I feel like I can begin after that. Then I work, again, either writing, shooting or editing the show, or we’ll be in press mode. Then I either hang out with friends or make the most basic [food] (I’m not a great cook… yet) and I’ll watch something. Then I try to read right before I go to bed.

Abby Jacobson in Broad City

I want to be more thoughtful and put things out into the world that say something.

SK: What is nonnegotiable when it comes to friendships?

AJ: I think being compassionate of each other’s lives and issues. We’re all going through different stages and issues, and as I get older, I’m trying to lean into that.

SK: Who are you still dying to work with?

AJ: Frances McDormand.

SK: What personal goals do you have for yourself now that you have such a solid platform and following?

AJ: I made a little pact with myself to only do projects I believe in for one reason or another. Something has to really stand out to me, big or small. I want to be more thoughtful and put things out into the world that say something.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for Jacobson on the rest of the fourth season of “Broad City” as well as in the future. With so many exciting projects, including her new show “Disenchantment,” her podcast “A Piece of Work” and her artistic endeavors, there’s plenty more to get hyped about when it comes to Abbi Jacobson.

5 Things to Do Before a Dramatic Hair Transformation

This time last year, I had grown disillusioned with my hair. It wasn’t that I didn’t actually like my hair. Although it admittedly took years for me to do that, I was simply tired of throwing it into the same styles. And I’ve tried them all. Marley twists, box braids, cornrows, a simple blowout; you name it and I’ve probably done it…twice.

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

So, you can understand why I threw all caution to the wind and decided to chop all of it off. There was no deep meaning or epiphany behind my big chop; I did it on a whim without knowing what it would look like or how it would make me feel. The truth is that when my stylist first whirled my chair around to face the mirror, I Freaked. Out. There were no tears or angry words, but on the inside, I thought, “Wow. This is a lot to take in.”

That confidence that I had walked into the salon with was gone. So I had to grin and bear it until I got into an Uber and could cover my TWA (teeny weeny afro) with a beanie. One, my head was cold, and two, what had I just done?! After a week or so, my shock did subside and eventually, I grew to love this new version of me.

The biggest takeaway was that random hair makeovers are not for the light-hearted. I admire anyone with a tenacity for transformation, but if you’re like me, there are a set of guidelines that will definitely ease the transition into a new look.

Read ahead for my tried and true rules for makeover preparation.

Start With Inspiration

I’ve never been one to model myself after celebrities, prominent figures or other people in general (besides my mom, of course). However, I do wish I took the time to browse magazines, Pinterest, Instagram and other social feeds for hairstyles I might actually enjoy wearing everyday. When I discovered the The Cut Life Instagram page after my big chop, it felt as though I had done everything backwards.

Here was a treasure trove of short hairstyle ideas that I could have saved and shown to a hairstylist beforehand and instead, I made an appointment without consulting first. The truth is, a good hairstylist will always recommend that you sit down to discuss the transformation beforehand, but at the end of the day, they’ll move forward if you tell them you’re ready. Patience is a virtue in many aspects of life, but especially when it involves our hair and beauty choices. Don’t be afraid to slow down and weigh your options before sitting in a salon chair.

Know Your Texture

With that being said, keep your hair’s curl pattern (or lack thereof) in mind when browsing potential hairstyles. Gravitate toward men and women who share your same texture; this is the best way to tell if a style will look good on you before going through with it. For instance, if someone with pin straight hair brought a picture of Alicia Keys to their stylist, a true professional would probably advise against such a drastic change because of the potential damage it will do to your strands.

MORE: 7 Insider Secrets to Surviving a Bikini Wax

There’s a little more wiggle room with hair color since so many temporary options are available. However, consulting with a stylist is still necessary so you can be educated on the healthiest way to manipulate your hair’s shade. A pro can also help you identify your hair’s texture if you have no idea what it is to begin with.

Consider Your Lifestyle

If there was one thing I knew my big chop guaranteed, it was a style that better fit my day-to-day schedule. My morning routine is almost always rushed and subsequently, leaves little time for hairstyling and makeup application. When considering a hair makeover, know that it will change your schedule in some way.

MORE: Have Short Hair? Then You Need These Chic Accessories

Maybe you’ll have more time to sleep in the mornings. Perhaps you’ll need a little extra time in front of the mirror. If your hair-spiration comes from a friend or family member, ask them to share their routine so you can ask questions and consider whether you’d be willing to do the same thing.

Prepare for a New Routine

This is not to be confused with an overall lifestyle change. We’re talking about your product lineup; the spritzes, creams and sprays you use everyday. This was the biggest surprise for me because I assumed that shorter hair would equal less products on my vanity. Boy, was I wrong. I actually ended up using the same amount and even added a few new ones into the mix.

MORE: The Black-Owned Hair Brands Curly Girls Can Trust

Because I used this as an opportunity to adopt healthier hair habits, I was introduced to an entirely new part of the curly girl world and soon realized that hair length really has nothing to do with the amount of products you use. Your hair’s health is first priority. For some, that means having a regimented multi-step routine. For others, that could mean the complete opposite. If you aren’t able to consult with an expert about the best products for your new hairstyle, anticipate a lot of trial and error in the future.

Remember It Doesn’t Last Forever

Lastly, know that you’re not permanently tied to a look you may not love. We obviously can’t turn back time, especially with drastic haircuts, but fostering a healthy hair routine means it will grow back faster and stronger than you think. More often than not, it usually takes a little extra time to settle into a new hairdo. Remember why you did it in the first place and if that came from a place of preparation and a genuine need for change, you’ll be just fine.

The Reason Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Aren’t Back Together (Yet)

Ever since news broke that The Weeknd and Selena Gomez split amid rumors that she’s been “hanging out” with her ex, Justin Bieber, the entire internet has been wondering: Is Jelena back together? Turns out, the answer isn’t a simple “yes” or “no.” According to sources for Us Weekly, Bieber is ready to rekindle things with his ex; however, Gomez is still on the fence on whether she wants to reopen that door.

“The ball is in Selena’s court right now,” a source close to Gomez told the magazine. “She was happy with The Weeknd, but Justin always has the biggest piece of her heart. This situation is a heartstring type of thing. She has to figure out what she wants.”

Per a second source, Bieber has been texting Gomez “non-stop,” even before her breakup with The Weeknd was official. To calm the “Starboy” singer’s nerves, Gomez assured him that Bieber and her were simply “just friends.” However, despite Gomez’s reported characterization of her and Bieber’s relationship, a source insists that the two are more than that. Bieber and Gomez dated on-and-off for roughly four years, so clearly there’s a lot of history there.

“Justin really wants to get back with Selena,” the second source said. “He has been texting her nonstop and hangs out with her whenever he can. Selena insisted that they were just friends and that The Weeknd had nothing to worry about, but she can’t deny that she still loves Justin. He had such a big piece of her heart and was such a huge part of her life for so long. She can’t just let him go.”

As for how The Weeknd feels about the situation, a source told E! News that he’s “upset” with seeing Gomez spark things up with her ex. A few days ago, over the weekend, Gomez and Bieber were spotted hanging out twice in a row—once at her house in Los Angeles and again, over breakfast, the next morning. The hangouts reportedly occurred shortly after Gomez and The Weeknd split after nearly 10 months of dating.

“Abel is upset about Selena hanging out with Justin, especially twice in the same week,” the source said.

Then there’s Bella Hadid, who, if you might recall, was The Weeknd’s girlfriend before he dated Gomez. Three months after Hadid and The Weeknd broke up in November 2016, he was spotted making out outside a restaurant with Gomez. There’s been talk about hurt feelings on Hadid’s side for some time, something her mom, Yolanda Hadid, recently confirmed on “Watch What Happens Live.”

According to a source for HollywoodLife, Hadid isn’t feeling super sympathetic for her recently single ex, to say the least. Per the source, Hadid predicted the breakup a while back, and was actually friends with Gomez before she started dating her ex.

“Bella isn’t surprised that Abel and Selena split,” a source said. “She never thought that relationship was going to last. She also has no sympathy for him. Bella loved Abel and was friends with Selena so when they started dating it definitely hurt. Bella isn’t mean spirited, but she isn’t exactly shedding a tear that they split either. He got what he deserved so he only has himself to blame.”

20 Chic and Non-Cheesy Winter Décor Ideas

I know, I know—Halloween is barely upon us, yet here we are, obsessing about how to decorate for Christmas this year. In fact, my boyfriend and I have already commenced fighting over how to handle the décor in our shared apartment for the holidays.

MORE: 50 Beauty Products That Will Sell Out Fast This Holiday Season

The main argument? I want a tree, and he doesn’t. He’s anti all things holiday, especially if they’re sentimental or superficial. I’m also not even remotely religious—the holidays are a secular tradition for me, a sentimental time that gives us an excuse to spend time cozying up inside with our loved ones and also eat, drink, and party. What’s not to like about that?

Whether you’re atheist, Christian, or Jewish, if you’re like me and enjoy having a bit of sparkle around you during what can otherwise be a blah time of year, you’ll draw inspiration from these ideas. While some do include trees and the occasional whimsical reindeer, most are a festive way of celebrating winter. Think spruce branches, lots of candles, and plenty of gold and silver accents.

Beyoncé’s Mom Spilled the Tea on Newborn Twins’ ‘Very Different Personalities’

In July, Beyoncé broke the internet when she posted the first photo of her newborn twins, Rumi and Sir, on Instagram. But since then, aside from a few grainy paparazzi shots and a handful of reports from anonymous “sources,” there’s been little information about 36-year-old singer and and her husband Jay Z‘s new bundles of joy.

Then came Tina Lawson, Beyoncé’s mom, who—like the embarrassing grandma she is—spilled the tea on the details her daughter was likely trying so hard to keep under wraps. (Tina is the real MVP). In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Tina and her husband, Richard Lawson, dished on the twins’ “very different personalities” and how 5-year-old Blue Ivy is faring as a big sister.

Like the rest of us, Tina also can’t handle the cuteness of two Beyoncé babies running around. “[The twins] are doing great. They are absolutely beautiful and so much fun,” Tina said. “I haven’t ever been around twins, but it’s so cute. I can hardly take it.”

But just because Rumi and Sir are twins, doesn’t mean they have identical personalities. Tina revealed that the twins have polar-different personalities, considering their different genders. “Yes, [it’s crazy]. It’s just really, really different with two babies,” she said. “I mean, a boy and a girl. Very different personalities.”

As for how Blue Ivy is dealing with no longer dealing with being an only child, Richard, Beyoncé’s stepdad, revealed that becoming an older sister has pushed the toddler to become more mature. “Just seeing her grow up, it’s bringing some maturity,” Richard said. “She’s only five, but you can see the transition in terms of her being a little more calm.”

Though, despite Blue’s newfound maturity, Richard also admits that she’s still diva, and is passing down her “diva-dom” to her younger siblings. “Because she’s the diva,” Richard said. “But she’s sharing her diva-dom.”

With a diva mom, it seems like the personality type is hereditary. With four diva family members, the Knowles-Carters could definitely rule the world.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Kinda, Sorta Related

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, but at some point way, way back in history, all humans are related. We already learned that when an eagle-eyed Twitter user discovered that newly engaged Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are probably related, and all it takes to see it is a little look at the genealogy sections of their Wikipedia pages.

https://twitter.com/sophwilkinson/status/912980475932704768/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sheknows.com%2Fentertainment%2Farticles%2F1136813%2Fmeghan-markle-prince-harry-are-distantly-related

Awkward.

And they’re not the only ones. According to the Mail, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who everyone expects to be announcing their wedding pretty much any minute now, also have a distant relative in common.

MORE: Meghan Markle Shamed for Wearing Ripped Jeans on Date

Before you freak out, know that the relative they share is from the late 15th century. So when we say distant, we really mean distant. Honestly, when you get that far back, pretty much everyone is related.

What’s really interesting about this revelation is that the relative that Prince Harry and Markle share is High Sheriff of County Durham Ralph Bowes. In 1632, Ralph’s grandson Christopher Hussey moved to Nantucket and it’s his bloodline that leads us to Markle. Additionally, Ralph’s great-grandson, Sir George Bowes, served in the British Parliament under Prince Charles II.

And this all comes full circle back to Harington and Leslie because amusingly enough, their common ancestor is Charles II, which means that the distant shared relative of these GoT actors ruled over the distant shared relative of the royal lovebirds. It’s like European celebrities are all involved in one big game of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, only rather than Bacon being the connective tissue, it’s just a lot more royalty and lot more oddness.

Seriously, though, everyone, let’s stop making all these cute celeb pairings awkward by finding out how couples are related. This isn’t exclusive to celebrities, and it isn’t even really news.

Ariana Grande Looks Grown-Up and Gorgeous With Gray Bangs

We could probably count on one hand the number of times Ariana Grande has veered away from her high ponytail hairdo. The 24-year-old adopted her signature look years ago and has been vocal about the inspiration behind it; mainly the need to cover up damage from her red-headed days as Cat on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” and “Sam and Cat.”

MORE: Ariana Grande Dyed Her Hair Pale Gray

“I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat… as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair,” she said on Instagram. “I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down. Trust me, it’s… difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined.”

Needless to day, we were stunned when the powerhouse vocalist finally started experimenting with other styles late last year and eventually went full-on gray this month. Now, Grande has upped the ante of her platinum makeover by throwing bangs into the mix and we have to admit we’re obsessed with this look.

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd Broke Up and We’re Not OK

Ugh. One of our favorite pop culture couples, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, has reportedly broken up. Happy Monday, everyone!

Sources tell People magazine that after 10 months together, Gomez and The Weeknd, given name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, couldn’t make their relationship work amid their busy schedules.

“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” one insider shared. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”

MORE: Selena Gomez Goes Pantless on Date with The Weeknd

Even with all that physical distance between them, Gomez was often seen attending The Weeknd’s shows, but there were many that she couldn’t make and “that played a part in them getting distant,” an insider explained. It also couldn’t have helped that Gomez has had a wild year, taking time off from her music career to have a kidney transplant to treat her lupus. We can see that being tough on any relationship.

MORE: The Worst Celebrity Breakups of 2016

The good news is they haven’t cut each other entirely out of their lives, so maybe there’s hope for reconciliation. “It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch,” a source said. “It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months.”

Despite what you may be thinking (and admit it—you were thinking it), Gomez is reportedly not back with her perpetually on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber, even though they were spotted together over the weekend going to church and then having breakfast together in a nearby café.

Here’s hoping this is the last celeb couple to call it quits this year. We’re taking a break from breakups until 2018, OK everyone?

The All-Time Best Products for Sparse Eyebrows

There is no beauty topic I am more passionate about than brows. Of all the physical traits I inherited from my father, sparse eyebrows are the one I wish had a return policy. It’s like the someone decided to pick off my brows, but quit halfway through, leaving me with teeny patches that won’t grow in a perfectly arched line. If brows are supposed to look like sisters, mine were distant relatives. In short: the struggle was real.

While most of my friends spent their time getting tweezed, plucked and waxed at the salon, I spent copious amounts of cash on serums and oils that promised to deliver Cara Delevingne-level greatness. Needless to say, nothing worked and by the time I had reached my late twenties, I suspected it would take drastic measures for me to finally get the brows of my dreams. Spoiler alert: I was right.

Last year, I took the plunge and decided to try microblading. Unlike eyebrow tattooing, which tends to look like stencils (not cute), the former is best described as semi-permanent tattooing. Using a set of teeny blades, an expert will draw hair-like strokes along your natural brow line that stay in place for 1-3 years. What gives them such lasting power is the fact that pigment is literally being planted inside the skin, as opposed to the standard products you can wash off at the end of the day.

If you have baby brows like me, you’ll appreciate these fillers.

What to Do When You’re Dating a Guy with Problems Below the Belt

When it comes to awkward sex scenarios, dealing with bodily malfunctions is up there with condom breakage and being walked in on unexpectedly. But it has the potential to be even worse, actually, because there are often some pretty complicated emotions that come along with physical SNAFUs in bed. To be clear: I’m talking about being with a guy who struggles with erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation. (There are plenty of other ways our bodies can malfunction in bed—and we women face our own challenges—but here, we’re focusing on the men.)

Erectile dysfunction, or the inability to get or keep an erection, affects millions of men in the U.S., with the number increasing with age. But that doesn’t mean millennial men don’t experience it: According to the University of Wisconsin Madison’s School of Medicine and Public Health, mild or moderate ED affects 10 percent of men per decade of life—meaning 20 percent of men in their 20s, 30 percent of men in the 30s, and so on, though we’ll assume with a drop-off at some point.

Premature ejaculation, on the other hand, is when a guy can’t stop himself from ejaculating shortly after penetration. Some sources estimate that 20 to 30 percent of men might struggle with PE at some point or another (the condition can come and go).

MORE: 20 Things Every Woman Should Know About STDs

That’s all to say that the number of women who’ve slept with a guy dealing with one of these disorders is also likely very high. (If we’re going just by my group of friends, that’s certainly true.) And no matter how empathetic you are to the problem, how patient, or non shame-y and blame-y, it’s still just that: A problem. You know it and he knows it, but the question of how to fix it remains.

Below, five smart suggestions from top sex therapists about where to start.

Don’t Make it About You

Though it might be tempting to cave to insecurities the minute something goes wrong—especially when it’s ED—try hard not to turn the focus onto yourself, says sexologist Emily Morse, Ph.D., host of Sex with Emily. “This doesn’t mean he’s not sexually attracted to you,” she says. “Men put so much stock in their penises working properly because of our culture’s idea of masculinity. But the same way that how wet you are doesn’t always reflect how turned-on you are, what’s happening below the belt for him isn’t always an accurate reflection of how badly he wants to be boning you.” Take a deep breath, quiet those inner voices, and resist the urge to ask him why you’re not hot enough to get him hard. Trust: Whatever negative things you’re hearing inside your head, he’s telling himself stuff that’s ten times worse.

Keep the Convo Casual

Along with avoiding talking about yourself, don’t bring an air of gloom, doom, or super-seriousness to the conversation when you do talk to the guy about it. It’ll just freak him out more than he is already. “Don’t have the conversation in the bedroom,” says Morse. “Try doing it over breakfast the next day. Another tip is to do it when you’re in the car or walking the dog—it’s a sensitive topic, so giving them the option not to make eye contact can be a big relief and make the conversation go smoother.” Your tone and vibe matters more than what you actually say, but your message should be something along the lines of, “What happened last night was no big deal! I’ve heard a lot of guys struggle with this, so maybe it’s worth having a doctor check it out.”

Rule Out Physical Factors

In young men, odds are the problem has psychological roots, says sex therapist Laurie Watson, LMFT, host of the podcast FOREPLAY: Radio Sex Therapy. “Here’s how to rule out that it’s physiological: If he has morning erections; if he can get an erection but can’t keep it; and he can get an erection by himself and ejaculate without any problem when he’s masturbating, the problem is not physical.” Instead, there’s probably something going on emotionally or intellectually that he may need to look at. Depending on how serious and invested you are in him and the relationship, that’s something you may be able to help him with.

MORE: How to Deal With a Low Sex Drive

Address the Ways He’s Psyching Himself out

There are some lifestyle or psychological factors that you can help him address. For instance, is he regularly drinking before you have sex? That can kill a boner. Has he been overdoing it on porn? “Porn keeps raising the bar of stimulation, meaning that men need a higher stimulus to get off because it’s what they’re getting used to,” says Morse. “Tell him—nicely—that if he backs off or takes a break, it could help your sex life.” Also, if you’re fighting in other areas of life, it could be spilling over into bed, says Watson. “If he’s angry at you, he can lose the ability to function properly,” she says. “Some men who cheat have trouble getting hard because they feel guilty and their penises are literally conflicted about sleeping with two women at once.” If it’s nerves, reassure him that you’re having fun no matter what happens with his D—and that he can always pleasure you in other ways. Once he takes his mind off it, he might find that he’s able to get it up or control how soon he comes.

Take Your Cues from Him

If you’re not able to home in on what’s causing the PE or ED, and his doctor says it’s not physical, you could consider seeing a sex therapist, says Watson. Hey, that’s what experts are for! But ultimately, he’s the only one who can get help. “Men are afraid to see sex therapists because they’re afraid they’ll be told they’re inadequate,” she says. “But if he delays getting help for very long, it might indicate that he is not a sex partner who will be willing to grow and change over time.” And that’s a whole other issue in and of itself.

If he’s being a dick about the situation and his ego’s too bruised to work together and find a solution, pay attention to what that’s telling you about him. Is he someone you want to keep sleeping with, let alone dating? “If there’s a pattern of delays, excuses, or anger when it comes to this subject, think twice about staying in the relationship,” says Watson. “It’s not a question of sexual incompatibility, but incompatibility with a person who isn’t a learner, won’t be open, and isn’t willing to change.”

The Best Expert Tips for Surviving Your First Waxing

Why are we talking about waxing just weeks before another winter season? Although our hemlines usually drop with temperatures, this is actually the perfect time to give it a test run, regardless of your experience or tolerance for pain.

For starters, we know there are few things scarier than the image of stinging hot wax and a sharp rip revealing red, irritated and still hairy skin. We’ve also read our fair share of waxing horror stories and harbored the rational fear of not wanting to throw our vagine into Dante-esque pain. With all that being said, waltzing into a spa fully prepared is imperative, to say the least.

Welcome to Waxing 101. With the help of Lora Keyles from New York City’s Eve SalonAmy McLain Master Esthetician, and Jessica Johnson the Founder of Jessica Johnson Beauty, we’re answering those beginner questions you’ve been afraid to ask out loud.

For instance, does your waxer need to know everything and just how how long does our hair have to be? Yep, we’re going there. Keep reading for 7 important points to keep in mind before your first appointment.

Choose a Good Waxer

When it comes to reviewing waxers, all three women emphasize referrals and years of experience because it’s a sure-fire way to know the technician is trusted by customers and able to maintain a job in the industry. Johnson warns, though, about using waxing chains because of the high turnover rate.

“The odds are you’re usually getting someone who hasn’t been waxing very long,” She says. “Many clients think ‘it’s just waxing,’ but the truth is, there’s a real art and skill to doing it well.”

Make Sure the Salon is Clean

It’s easy to look at something and know if it’s clean or not (most of the time), but when it comes to waxing salons, there are specific things to look for. The experts say your waxer should always wear gloves, never double dip, and have a clean waxing pot.

Let Your Hair Really Grow

You’ve probably heard your hair needs to be long for waxing, but do you know why? The 3/4 inch rule, or as Keyles says, as long as a grain of rice, is in place because of your hair growth cycle.

MORE: The 7 Worst Beauty Habits and How to Break Them Now

McLain says, “The reason you want to wait for the hair to be longer is because you have three growth cycles of hair, and they grow at different times. Waiting for the hair to be the proper length will allow all of the growth cycles to be out, and you will get a much better wax. When you don’t wait the proper amount of time, you may remove two growth cycles, and this means a week later, you’ll have hair already growing back in. A good wax should last you a couple weeks before you even start to see any regrowth.”

Prepare for the Pain

Although Johnson reveals waxing is “bottom line uncomfortable,” there are ways to minimize the impending pain.

Keyles says you should always tell your esthetician about any contraindicative medication you’re on beforehand. This is medication that can affect your skin sensitivity and even lead to it being ripped off. So, speak up if you’re keen on keeping your skin in tact.

MORE: 7 Bloggers Share Their Favorite Winter Skin Care Products

As for prep you can do on your own, all three ladies recommended taking Advil or Tylenol 30 minutes to an hour before the appointment. Keyles says throwing back a shot is okay, while McLain says to “avoid caffeine right before your appointment (caffeine can make our nerve endings be on alert making our skin more sensitive), avoid right before your period (our bodies are just more sensitive in general), and avoid any aggressive exfoliation.”

Start Small and Build

Figuring out what to wax may be one of the reasons you’ve kept putting it on your back burner. The pros have spoken, and there’s really no best way to do it. You can go for the full turkey and get that Brazilian or you can start with half-leg to master your pain tolerance. It’s truly a matter of preference and guts.

Practice A+ Aftercare

Ok, so you got the wax. Now what? Should you not wear underwear for the next five days? According to Johnson, cotton underwear actually helps protect tender and sensitive skin after a Brazilian. And even if you’re not getting a Brazilian, cotton underwear won’t hurt you. What can hurt you is tight clothing, working out, or lots of friction. McLain says aweat and buildup are breeding ground for bacteria that can cause irritation and pesky pimples.

If you’re a runner or just extremely active, Johnson recommends applying 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream to the area that was waxed for the first few days. This ingredient is the magic bullet to clearing acne and it works the same to heal a post wax breakout. You can find 2.5% benzoyl peroxide products at most drugstores.

MORE: The Best, Most Obnoxious Face Masks to Wear In-Flight

And if you’re just someone who likes to veg on the couch, but has sensitive skin, Keyles says you can use Hydrocortisone Cream or Neosporin to lessen the irritation. Lastly, the number one worry every first waxer has on their mind…

What About the Embarrassment?

No surprise here: all three professionals have literally seen it all! So whatever you have, they’ve probably already dealt with. Don’t be shy about expressing your concerns to the technician. They should be able to make you feel comfortable and safe. And if you’re having major anxiety, McLain says “estheticians are similar to nurses or health professionals. They aren’t looking at you, but more of the task at hand! She is there to help you, and make you feel (and look) good!”

Waxing is definitely intimidating, but these tips and tricks should put you at ease. Take a chance, get prepped, and rip some hair out of your body– casual Saturday.

Benefit Cosmetics Recalled One of Its Best-Selling Products

Benefit Cosmetics prides itself on being the eyebrow authority, so when one of its products is abruptly pulled from shelves: we pay extra close attention. Just before the weekend, the brand recalled its Gimme Brow Gel and explained that recent batches of the product didn’t meet “stringent quality standards.”

The best-selling product is a brush-on formula meant to volumize and enhance the appearance of sparse brows. It’s available in three different shades: light, medium and deep.

The full statement reads, “Benefit Cosmetics is committed to the highest levels of quality and doing what’s right for our customers. Although a Benefit employee confirmed to Glamour that this is a voluntary recall, they advise using with extreme caution, since it could lead to irritation or other adverse reactions for some.

Customers have also been urged to return it for a full refund as the Benefit team works to bring back its hero product “as soon as possible.” For now, all buy links lead to an official statement on the brand’s site.

In short: it’s better to be safe now than sorry later. So step away from the spoolie brush and sit tight until it’s back on shelves. And if you have more specific questions regarding the Gimme Brow Gel, visit the Benefit website for more information.

People Are Pissed at Kim Kardashian for Dressing Up Like Aaliyah for Halloween

Kim Kardashian is an icon in her own right, but when it comes to Halloween, she typically steps into the shoes of legends bigger than her. For this holiday, the 36-year-old “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star channeled three music legends: Cher, Madonna, and Aaliyah. And though Kim saw tons of positive feedback for her arguably uncanny costumes, she was also heavily criticized for dressing up like a black woman.

On Saturday, Kim tweeted a video of her Aaliyah costume. The ensemble consisted of sleek, pin-straight hair, smokey-blue eyeshadow, leather pants, and a diamond encrusted choker, bra, and belt. “Baby Girl Aaliyah,” she captioned the video, nodding at the late R&B singer’s nickname.

Though some followers praised Kim for her Aaliyah-inspired outfit, others considered the look “disrespectful” considering the reality star isn’t the same race as the “Try Again” singer. (Kim is of Dutch, English, Irish, Scottish, and Armenian descent, while Aaliyah was African American with Native American heritage.)

On the flip side, some on the internet defended Kim’s look. Her supporters argued that, since she didn’t wear blackface, the costume was a simple homage and not racially insensitive. However others contended that Kim’s darker-than-usual tan was an attempt to emulate Aaliyah’s skin tone.

This isn’t the first time Kim has been accused of cultural insensitivity. In May, the middle Kardashian sister came under fire for a KKW Beauty photoshoot, in which some claim she wore blackface. Kim was accused of blackface again in August when her skin appeared darker than usual in a W magazine photoshoot with North West.

Kim has yet to respond to the Aaliyah backlash, so we guess we’ll just have to wait for Halloween on Tuesday to see if she’s going to stir up controversy again or play it safe with her costume.

40 Ways to Slay the Maximalist Street Style Trend

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: 2017 has been the year for maximalist dressing. A few years ago, minimalism stormed the fashion scene, with neutrals, pared-down layers, classic silhouettes, and a color called oatmeal that some consider soft and soothing, but TBH, we gotta admit that it’s a tad dreary. (Save it for the luxe throw at the end of your bed, ‘k?)

Now, we’re not saying that minimalism is over, or that it ever totally will be (hello, capsule wardrobes and classic all-black ensemble in the tradition of New Yorkers), but we—and everyone—seems to be having a lot more fun with fashion again. We’re mixing prints, clashing colors, adding a ruffle here, there and pretty much everywhere. Our inner Iris Apfel is rejoicing as we stop taking ourselves quite so seriously.

I, personally, am a maximalist through and through, so I’ve been absolutely thriving in 2017. Minimalism never resonated with me, and I was always unsure if layering five necklaces at once was too much, or if a giant faux fur jacket was acceptable for a Monday morning meeting (side note: I’ve learned that they’re both perfectly acceptable and, IMHO, recommended).
