Give Your Strands a Boost of Brightness With These Hair Lightening Sprays

When you want a natural-looking boost of brightness to your hair without hitting the salon, lightening sprays can be just the ticket. Ingredients such as lemon and chamomile lighten strands over time and get more effective the more often you use them. While you don’t have to sit in the sun for the formula to work, the UV rays will boost the formula’s effectiveness. Hey, any excuse to hang out in the sun, right? (Just don’t forget the SPF.)

For the yummiest scent, and two of them at that, choose Sun In’s lightening spray. You get a lemon and tropical scent that will stay with your strands. Aloe and flaxseed condition while the lightening ingredients work their magic. If you know you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside, or if you live in an especially sunny climate, you might want to choose Sun Bum’s version. It has UVs, as well as frizz and humidity. If you prefer an ultra-natural formula, Gnarly Head’s biodegradable spray is gluten-free and vegan and also acts as a detangler and leave-in conditioner.

Shop these hair lightening sprays, below, and get ready for natural-looking highlights over time.

Khloé Kardashian’s Net Worth Proves She Has Plenty Reason to Celebrate

With sisters Kim and Kendall heading into billionaire status, many might be wondering where Khloé Kardashian’s net worth rests in comparison. Like her business-savvy siblings, the 36-year-old Good American co-founder has plenty going for her besides her role on Keeping Up With the Kardashians—so let’s just say that she’s also doing very, very well for herself in that regard.

We’ll get to *exactly* how well she’s doing in a moment, but first, there’s cause for celebration: Other than being wealthy and healthy, the youngest Kardashian sister recently had another birthday. Khloé rang in her 36th birthday on June 27 with a socially distanced bash, which included a “SMALL” guest list but “MAJOR” decor, according to the reality star.

The KarJenner crew was in attendance, with photos from Koko’s special day showing off her siblings Rob, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, along with mom Kris and her ex-boyfriend, Tristan Thompson. The NBA player, who shares daughter True Thompson with the birthday girl, used the festivities as an opportunity to express his “love” for the KUWTK star.

While we’re still not sure what Khloé’s situation with Tristan is—are they dating? are they not?—we do know how much she’s worth. And to be clear, that’s with or without a man. For everything we know about Khloé Kardashian’s net worth, just keep on reading.

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

How much does Khloé make from KUWTK?

In 2017, Keeping Up With the Kardashians was renewed for five years with E! in a deal amounting to “below $100 million” for the first three years. But some sources claim the KarJenners are receiving up to $150 million in total for the deal. Now, given that momager Kris Jenner admitted in 2017 in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that “Everybody gets paid pretty much equally,” we can go ahead and split up that E! deal accordingly.

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

According to Showbiz Cheatsheet, that breaks down to anywhere up to $930,000 per episode for each leading member of the Kardashian-Jenner family. With Khloé’s spot in the limelight, we have no doubt she’s bringing in that big of a salary.

How else does Khloé make money?

Over the years, Khloé has starred in multiple other Kardashian-spinoffs, including Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami, Khloé and Lamar, and Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian. The reality star is also the co-founder of Good American Jeans, a successful clothing brand. And like the other KarJenner sisters, Khloé definitely indulges in a good endorsement deal on social media from time to time. According to Forbes, all of these streams of income earned her up to $15 million in 2016 alone.

What is Khloé Kardashian’s net worth?

According to Money, Khloé is worth approximately $40 million as of 2020.

This ‘Politician’ Character Is Low-Key Inspired by Beto O’Rourke

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Politician season 2. You’re not the only one who wondered if Tino in The Politician season 2 was based on Beto O’Rourke. After the comedy-drama premiered on Netflix on June 19, Twitter lit up with fans who wondered if the character was inspired by another Texas politician.

Tino McCutcheon, who made cameo in season 1, is a Junior Senator-Elect from Texas in The Politician season 2. At the start of the season, we learn that Tino (played by Sam Jaeger) has a secret plan to run for President of the United States and wants Dede to be his Vice President. Fans have pointed out that the storyline is similar to Beto’s political track. The IRL politician ran to represent Texas in the United State Senate in 2018 before he narrowly lost to Ted Cruz. Beto also was a 2020 Democratic candidate for President of the United States before he announced the end of his campaign in November 2019. Fans have also pointed out that the names, Beto and Tino, have similarities, as reported by Men’s Health.

The main difference is that Tino is a senator, whereas Beto was not. However, had Beto won against Cruz, he would’ve had the same title as Tino, “junior senator from Texas,” so there are parallels to their political tracks. The Politician also filmed its first season in fall of 2018, around the time of Beto’s senate election. Season 2 filmed toward the end of 2019, which is around the time that Beto conceded in his presidential race, so it’s possible that creator Ryan Murphy could’ve been inspired by the politician for both seasons.

The Politician

Image: Netflix.

However, other than their similar political careers, the similarities between Tino and Beto end there. As viewers saw, Tino has an affair with Georgina Hobart, Payton’s mom and the Governor of California, who he also wants as his Vice President after he sees Dede struggling to win her election in New York. Along with Georgina, Tino has also cheated on his with with other women. His wife, who’s in a coma for Trichinosis (an illness from eating undercooked pork), exposes him when she wakes up from his coma and reveals everything she’s heard while he’s thought she was unconscious. (Beto, for his part, has been married to his wife for 15 years.)

As of now, the creators from The Politician haven’t confirmed if Beto loosely inspired Tino. But there’s no denying there are resemblances.

A New Book Claims Meghan Markle ‘Embarrassed’ Prince Harry With Her Pregnancy Announcement

It’s hard to imagine how a pregnancy announcement could be “embarrassing” for the Sussexes, but leave it to some royal biographers to tease that story out anyway. According to a forthcoming royal biography, Meghan Markle’s pregnancy “embarrassed” Prince Harry at Princess Eugenie’s wedding back in October 2018 because she announced it at the event, effectively “stealing the limelight” from the bride. Yet there’s reason to believe that wasn’t really the case.

Harper’s Bazaar report issued days after the rumor suggested that Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, didn’t actually break the news to the royal family at the wedding. According to their source, members of the royal family—including the Queen and Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Eugenie—all knew about Meghan’s pregnancy beforehand. Instead, Eugenie’s wedding simply marked the first time the royal family could congratulate the couple in person.

But now, tabloid editor Dylan Howard and investigative journalist Andy Tillett are set to release their own biography of the Sussexes—and their book tells a different story. Howard and Tillett claim that Markle made a “huge social gaffe” at the wedding, leaving her husband “embarrassed” and the bride and her mother “furious.”

Buy: Royals at War: The Untold Story of Harry and Meghan's Shocking Split with the House of Windsor $22.49

“Meghan put her foot in it when she decided that it would be the ideal moment to announce that she and Harry were expecting their first child,” their book claims.

The pair adds, “This was a huge social gaffe, even if you were not a royal—stealing the limelight from Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother, Sarah.”

Howard and Tillet’s book, Royals at War: The Untold Story of Harry and Meghan’s Shocking Split with the House Of Windsor, out June 30, is set to unveil “an intimate portrait of a troubled prince” and takes place over the course of “a dramatic thirteen-day period that led to the royal couple quitting official duties—to being banned from using HRH titles.” Couple that with Lady Colin Campbell’s forthcoming biography titled Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, and Bazaar’s own Omid Scobie’s Finding Freedom with Carolyn Durand, this summer is going to be full of new royal revelations.

Payton & Dede’s Senator Race in ‘The Politician’ Season 2 Resembles This IRL Election

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Politician season 2. Anyone who’s seen Netflix’s The Politician knows that it’s an over-the-top dramatization of what politics looks like. That said, some of it has to be based in reality, which makes us wonder if The Politician season 2 is based on a true story.

The Politician season 2, which premiered on Netflix on June 29, follows the race between Payton Hobart and Dede Standish for a seat in the New York State Senate. Payton, who lost the election for Student Body President in The Politician season 1, is a New York University student with less experience than Dede, but tons of passion, especially around climate change. Dede, on the other hand, is the incumbent Majority Leader, who’s been senator for years and years and has grown tired of the role. Compared to Payton’s ecocentric campaign, Dede and her campaign manager, Hadassah Gold, stick to their conservative platforms.

In the end, Payton becomes New York State Senator after the election ends in a tie and Dede drops out of the election after not having the same passion for local politics as Payton. (She later runs with Payton’s mom, Georgina Hobart, for Vice President of the United States and wins.) So is Payton and Dede’s election in The Politician season 2 based on a real election or any real politicians? So far, there’s nothing confirmed from creator Ryan Murphy, but fans have pointed out resemblances between the storyline and the 2018 election between Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Joseph Crowley for a  seat in the U.S. House of Representatives as the representative for New York’s 14th district.

Though AOC and Payton have their obvious differences (he’s a white man from wealthy area of Santa Barbara, California, and she’s a woman of color from the Bronx), there are some similarities in how they were known at the time of their elections, as first reported by Refinery29. Payton, an NYU student, wasn’t well-known in the world of politics in The Politician, and neither was AOC, who’s talked about how she bartender in New York to fund her congressional campaign.

The Politician

Image: Netflix.

Like Dede (who was an unrivaled senator for years), Crowley, AOC’s opponent, was the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and had been in congress for more than a decade. As seen in the Netflix documentary, Knock Down the House, Crowley also didn’t take AOC seriously (in the same way that Hadassah and Dede underestimated Payton). In the end, AOC won the election because of the change to her community. Payton won over Dede for the same reasons, and Dede even agreed before she conceded to him that he would make a better senator than him.

Still, there’s no confirmation from the creators that The Politician season 2 is based on AOC and Crowley’s election. Laura Dreyfuss, who plays McAfee in the show, also told StyleCaster in June that the show exists in its “own universe” with little to no references to the real world. “What I love about the show is it’s in its own universe. It’s taking place in our world. It makes it more,” she said. “You’re able to remove yourself from current day and still feel like you’re existing in a parallel universe where this all happening.”

Still, there’s no denying there are similarities between Dede and Payton’s election and the 2018 race to represent the New York 14th district.

The Politician season 2 is available to stream on Netflix.

Let’s Learn from Lili Reinhart’s ‘Tone-Deaf’ Breonna Taylor Instagram Post & Apology

On social media, influencers and celebrities are increasingly using their posts to demand justice for Breonna Taylor. Unfortunately, some of those posts miss the mark—much like Lili Reinhart’s ‘tone-deaf’ Breonna Taylor Instagram post. The Riverdale actress has since apologized for her post, which featured a photo of herself topless and referencing Breonna Taylor’s in her caption. Yes, at the same time.

In the since-removed post, Reinhart, 23, wrote: “Now that my sideboob has gotten your attention, Breonna Taylor’s murderers have not been arrested. Demand justice.” Reinhart’s caption is one of many following a strange trend that’s emerged in recent weeks where social media users post a photo of anything from selfies to flatlays, yet issue a seemingly unrelated call to action to demand justice for Breonna Taylor—the EMT and Louisville resident was killed during a “no-knock” police raid in mid-March by three plainclothes officers (two of whom still have their jobs).

Other social media users have been quick to point out the meme-ification of Breonna’s death in posts like these, as they fail to fully center her life and story. “Breonna Taylor’s murder is not a joke. It’s not a meme. It’s not meant for your get clear skin tweet to go viral,” wrote Twitter user @itsny01_. “She was a real Black woman who was murdered in her own home. Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove are the cops who murdered her not just some cops.”

https://twitter.com/itsny01_/status/1275810955692314624

Reinhart picked up on the criticism shortly after sharing her post and immediately removed it from her Instagram feed. “I’ve always tried to use my platform for good, and speak up about things that are important to me,” she wrote on Twitter in response. “I also can admit when I make a mistake and I made a mistake with my caption. It was never my intent to insult anyone and I’m truly sorry to those that were offended.”

“I’ve tried very hard to be honest on my IGTV lives that I’m still learning and trying to be better,” she added, referencing sessions her Instagram Live takeovers and interviews with Black guests like Riverdale co-star Asha Bromfield. “But I understand that my caption came off as tone deaf. I truly had good intentions and did not think it through that it could come off as insensitive.”

Let Reinhart’s less-than-graceful mistake (and far more graceful response), be a lesson. Overall, when in doubt about your social media activism, make sure to do your research—and apologize for your mistakes.

Non-Greasy Body Lotions With Built-in SPF Defense

We know that we’re supposed to wear sunscreen when we go out in sun, and you also probably know that wearing facial SPF every day is key to preventing premature signs of aging (and of course, cancer). But it turns out, we should also be wearing sun protection on our body every day as well—whether we’re planning a beach day or outdoor picnic, or just out and about running errands. Regardless of the season, UV damage is a threat to skin health at any time of year, so it’s important to avoid neglecting your body when it comes to sunblock.

Unfortunately, many SPF lotions can be sticky, slimy, greasy, and oily—making them pretty uncomfortable to wear on an everyday basis—-not to mention the residue left behind on your clothing. Fortunately, there are plenty of body lotions formulated for a wide array of skin types that are infused with SPF defense, so you don’t have to apply two layers. Scroll through below to check out some of our hydrating body lotions with built-in sunblock to try out for yourself.
