In 2020, cute loungewear was more important than ever before. I mean, we were spending more time indoors than ever before. In 2021, though, it’s all about how we can make those same loungewear pieces work for the lives we live outside of the house. The weather is nice right now and.I am simply itching to spend less time in front of my T.V. Fortunately, there are a few key trends on the rise we can all shop to upgrade our stash of sweats.
What’s cool, you ask? Legions of teens have declared that yoga pants are called “flared leggings” now on TikTok, if you can believe it. As for fabrics, everyone is obsessing over lightweight ribbed knits. Soft, sporty shorts sets are basically the new tracksuits and teeny bralettes have replaced hoodies when paired with coordinating oversized sweatpants.
Below, I’ve rounded up all the top loungewear trends to start shopping, so read on for the cutest sweats, bralettes and more. Don’t listen to the haters—you can totally keep wearing loungewear 24/7. In fact, I may never wear jeans ever again.

Flared Leggings
Fitted leggings have ruled for the past six or seven years, but Gen Z (cough, Emma Chamberlain, cough) has declared that flared pants are back in style. What once were yoga pants are now reimagined as “flared leggings,” so it’s time to add this name change to the growing list of things that millennials and Gen Z-ers will be fighting about.

If you’re tired of wearing a chunky sweatsuit all the dang time, why not try a more slim-fitting ribbed knit instead? They’re a little more lightweight for the summer months (so you won’t get too hot while sitting in your apartment) and they come in a variety of silhouettes and shades.

I’m not normally a fan of leopard print, but this version feels more wearable than other iterations I’ve seen. Maybe it’s due to the relaxed, oversized shape of this crewneck or the paper bag waist on the matching shorts—either way, I really, really want it.

Yes, you read that correctly. We’re wearing our sports bras with our sweatpants this summer! If you don’t want to run out and buy a whole new set, start off by wearing your favorite black barrettes with that one pair of black joggers you’ve been living in recently. No one will be able to tell.
