The tie-dye sweatsuit? Yeah, it had a good run. Last year, there was nothing I wanted more—and I’ve amassed quite the collection to prove it. That said, I can’t help but look at 2021’s loungewear trends and find myself wanting to buy even more sweats and hoodies. Anyone else?
In 2020, cute loungewear was more important than ever before. I mean, we were spending more time indoors than ever before. In 2021, though, it’s all about how we can make those same loungewear pieces work for the lives we live outside of the house. The weather is nice right now and.I am simply itching to spend less time in front of my T.V. Fortunately, there are a few key trends on the rise we can all shop to upgrade our stash of sweats.
What’s cool, you ask? Legions of teens have declared that yoga pants are called “flared leggings” now on TikTok, if you can believe it. As for fabrics, everyone is obsessing over lightweight ribbed knits. Soft, sporty shorts sets are basically the new tracksuits and teeny bralettes have replaced hoodies when paired with coordinating oversized sweatpants.
Below, I’ve rounded up all the top loungewear trends to start shopping, so read on for the cutest sweats, bralettes and more. Don’t listen to the haters—you can totally keep wearing loungewear 24/7. In fact, I may never wear jeans ever again.

Flared Leggings
Fitted leggings have ruled for the past six or seven years, but Gen Z (cough, Emma Chamberlain, cough) has declared that flared pants are back in style. What once were yoga pants are now reimagined as “flared leggings,” so it’s time to add this name change to the growing list of things that millennials and Gen Z-ers will be fighting about.
High Waisted Palazzo Wide-Leg Pants
If you love this trend and you don’t want to wait another second to wear it, buying a pair of flares on Amazon is probably your best bet. This option from Satina will satisfy your sartorial craving in no time.

If you don’t want to pull out your old pair of yoga pants just yet, ease your way back into the trend with these stylish hip huggers from Aerie. They even feature the same crossover waistband as their viral best-selling leggings.
Ribbed Knits
If you’re tired of wearing a chunky sweatsuit all the dang time, why not try a more slim-fitting ribbed knit instead? They’re a little more lightweight for the summer months (so you won’t get too hot while sitting in your apartment) and they come in a variety of silhouettes and shades.
Helena Ribbed Button Front Top + Alisa Ribbed Flare Pants
This olive set from Curvy Sense is so affordable (both prices retail for under $50!) and comes in a color that you can wear all year-’round. The button-down top is super on-trend this season—and I’d argue you could make these cropped flare pants work for a low-key day at the office.
Ribbed Allissar Tank + Core Ribbed Jogger
If light colors are more your vibe, then this pink set from LNA deserves a spot at the top of your loungewear list. I would personally also style this ribbed tank with a pair of high-waisted white jeans. The matching joggers will do the trick, though!
Soft Shorts
Speaking of matching sets in the summertime! It doesn’t get more warm weather-appropriate than a cute as hell shorts set. I love wearing sweatpants as much as the next girl, but it’s time to slap some self tanner on those legs and put ’em on display!
Cort Short Set
Everyone needs a cream-colored co-ord in their wardrobe this summer. This one from Reformation works for either lounging around the house or running errands in the dead of summer. TBH, you may never want to take it off.
Tunic Crewneck Sweatshirt + Cloud Paperbag Shorts
I’m not normally a fan of leopard print, but this version feels more wearable than other iterations I’ve seen. Maybe it’s due to the relaxed, oversized shape of this crewneck or the paper bag waist on the matching shorts—either way, I really, really want it.
Bras and Sweatpants
Yes, you read that correctly. We’re wearing our sports bras with our sweatpants this summer! If you don’t want to run out and buy a whole new set, start off by wearing your favorite black barrettes with that one pair of black joggers you’ve been living in recently. No one will be able to tell.
Essential Scoop Bra + Good Waist Joggers
I blame the entire Kardashian family for making this trend a thing—so obviously Good American is selling a version. This light gray sports bra and the matching joggers have a borrowed-from-the-boys vibe, don’t you think?
The Terry Bralette + The Terry Henley Sweatpant
Meet the only pair of sweatpants that won’t make you overheat. They look fuzzy, but that’s because they’re made of terry cloth! The green Terry Bralette is pretty cute too, no? I die for the color. You’ll look like an Insta-famous influencer in this set from Donni, guaranteed.
