Fans Think Karlie Kloss Shaded Taylor Swift by Quoting Katy Perry on Instagram

There has been a lot of talk about Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift‘s friendship. Are they friends? Are they feuding? No one is sure. And though things were looking up for Kaylor when Kloss wished Swift a happy birthday in December, rumors are swirling that the pair’s bad blood is worse than ever—and that Katy Perry might be to blame.

On Monday, the 25-year-old model posted a suspicious Instagram post that has led many fans to believe that Kaylor is dead. The post, a video from Kloss’s installment in LOVE magazine’s advent calendar, was captioned with “Swish swish,” along with a heart and basketball emojis.

Followers of Swift and Perry’s drama will recognize “Swish Swish” as a title of a song from Perry’s recent album, Witness. The song—which includes lines like “Don’t you come for me” and “Funny, my name keeps comin’ out your mouth”—is rumored to be a rebuttal of Swift’s 2015 single “Bad Blood,” which delves into the falling out of Swift and Perry’s friendship.

After Kloss posted her Instagram, she was immediately flooded with comments from fans who suspected that she was shading Swift by quoting Perry’s diss track. Kloss was bombarded with comments like “Fake friend” and “Don’t try to shade Taylor. Just don’t.” Kloss was also hit with comments from Swift fans who quoted the singer’s song, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” off her recent album, Reputation.

“Did you think I wouldn’t hear all the things you said about me?” one fan quoted.

Of course, deeming Kloss’s “Swish swish” caption as shade can also be a huge stretch. The Instagram video features her playing basketball, so phrases like “swish swish” (the sound a ball makes when it goes through a net) is only a fair association. But you would also think Kloss would know better than to fan the flames by even slightly referencing a Perry song—even if it was a coincidence. And the Kaylor mystery continues…

The Best Curl-Defining Techniques For Natural Hair, According to YouTube

Although I’ve gotten over my deeply rooted frizzy hair complex, that doesn’t mean I’ve neglected my search for an easy way (key word: easy) to make my curls bounce and spiral. In fancier terms, I want definition and to enhance what’s already there. What I’ve learned is that sometimes gels and creams simply don’t cut it.

When you factor in all of the processes we typically put our strands through–like coloring or heat-styling–it’s no wonder our natural curls start to fall flat over time. What we really need to do beyond investing in curling products is literally manipulate our hair back into its original pattern. Albeit it takes time and consistency, there are some tried and true techniques that prove this to be true.

Now, if you’ve got textured hair like me, the gamut is pretty wide, but the results and prep time slightly vary. Over the course of my natural hair journey, I’ve grown to love a slew of black vloggers, like Pretty Girls With Curls and Mini Marley, whose curls seems to always flourish without effort. What they have in common are these five defining methods. Ahead, a refresher on what each of them are and what to expect as you try them.

Shingling Method

This tool-free method works best on detangled, damp hair, but requires a lot of product, such as an alcohol-free gel or moisturizing cream. Start by separating the hair into four sections. From there, take a small section from one of those sections and rake or smooth product through from roots to tips.

If you’re feeling extra ambitious, define and elongate each curl within that smaller section by raking your fingers through. After that, try not to touch your hair as it dries overnight or otherwise. This process can feel tedious, depending on your hair length, so maybe not the best option for those on a time crunch.

Finger Coils Method

Like the shingling method, you can begin the finger coiling technique by splitting your hair into four sections and split each of those into two sub-sections ( 8 total). Next detangle each section (or detangle the entire head beforehand) and apply a curl activator of your choice. Take one of your subsections and grab a small piece of hair from it.

Coat your index finger in a dab of curl activator and twist the strand around it, hold for a few seconds and loosen. It doesn’t matter how big or small the curl is; it’s simply a matter of personal preference, although the smaller the curl, the more definition you’ll see overall. After you’re done, you can allow your hair to air-dry. This method is also tedious, so save it for a lazy Sunday.

Two or Three-Strand Twist Out Method

The twist-out is the most popular curl-defining method before it can be done on dry or wet hair. When done on wet hair, the results are smaller, spiral-y curls and on heat-styled hair, you can expect to see bigger waves. Start by separating your hair into three or four sections. Take one section and spray it with water or a styler (best option for dry hair) to add moisture.

Once you’ve detangled with a comb or your fingers, separate a small section within your sub-section and split it into three strands. From there, take the strand furthest on the right, rotate it over to the left and repeat until you’ve gotten to the ends. Once your entire head is done, wear the twists overnight to really lock in the definition and remove when you wake up.

Braid Out Method

This method is nearly identical to the twist-out method, except you’re doing traditional braids throughout the hair instead. For best results, start with freshly shampooed and deep-conditioned hair. You should also begin your braids in the back of the head, so you can easily see that section, while everything else is pinned away, giving you a clearer view. The amount of braids you do will depend on the amount of time you have and how big you want your curls to be. Again, if you’re looking for skinny spirals, aim for smaller-sized ones.

Flexi-Rod or Perm Rod Set Method

If you prefer doing your hair right before bed so it has ample time to settle, a flexi-rod set will keep all of your hard work secure and in place as you sleep. You can pick up these styrofoam sticks at your local beauty supply store and

Lay the rod flat against your scalp and wrap the hair around the rod, working your way down. If you want a smoother look, stop every couple of seconds to brush through the curls. Once you’re done wrapping the hair, bend both ends of the rods into each other until you form a tight circle. Repeat this throughout the hair and hold your entire do in place with a silk and satin bonnet. After you’ve removed the rods in the morning, use a tail comb to gently style the curls without disturbing their newly-defined shape.

9 Tiny Tweaks to Improve Communication with Your Partner

You can make major improvements to your relationship without doing much of anything. Seriously. It all has to do with communication, which is key in having a strong, healthy connection with your S.O. Even if you’re not the best listener or you two can’t ever have a serious conversation without one of you leaving in a huff… by applying these 9 tiny tweaks, even the couple who has the most trouble communicating can find a way to connect.

Deal with One Thing at a Time

Bringing up bills, next year’s vacation, your niece’s birthday gift, and not being able to orgasm all in one conversation won’t get you anywhere. Limit serious discussions to one subject, says Dr. Darcy Sterling, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the star of E! Network’s hit show “Famously Single.” “Be as specific as possible,” she says. “Your partner will have an easier time hearing about one issue than if you discuss 10 topics at once, which is not only unreasonable—it’s overwhelming.”

Raise Issues Carefully

“Before beginning a serious discussion, tell your partner that you have something you’d like to discuss, inform him/her of the topic, which also helps you to hone in on what the issue is, and—most importantly—ask if now is a good time to have the conversation,” says Sterling. “This allows your partner to feel like he/she has some control over the situation and reduces the likelihood that they’ll feel ambushed. If it’s not a good time, ask them to commit to a time in the next week that is mutually convenient.” And yes—that means sitting with the issue until then.

Don’t Talk When You’re Tired

If you’ve had a long day and don’t think you’ll be fully invested in a conversation, don’t have it. Chanel Omari, an iHeartRadio celebrity radio host, says “Don’t be afraid to say, ‘Hey, sorry, but I need to do this another time. I’m just really exhausted and want to talk when I have energy.’ That’s much better for the both of you than getting together, being tired and cranky, and wasting both your time.” Communication can be skewed when you’re exhausted because it makes it hard to focus, listen well, and be kind.

Make Eye Contact

It’s a simple adjustment that says a whole lot. Imagine trying to tell your partner about the awful day you had or bringing up your budget and he/she is watching TV, on Instagram, or texting a friend at the very moment when you’re trying to be serious and have something noteworthy to say. It’s rude, annoying, and gets you both nowhere. Make sure you’re looking each other in the eyes with no other distractions when you have an important conversation.

Throw in a Feeling Word

When you talk to your partner, especially during tough or emotional conversations, include at least one feeling word, xzyx psychotherapist Tina Gilbertson. “For example, ‘I was disappointed when I didn’t hear from you.’ This encourages you to focus on your own experience, rather than on the other person or the facts of the matter, which could be open to debate.” She adds that “feeling words” help you make sense of your own reactions and help your partner get to know the real you. “If you never say how you feel, they have to guess, and might get it wrong.”

Speak and Listen

Take turns speaking without interrupting. “Allow your partner a chance to address your concerns. Look for opportunities to validate your partner’s feelings,” says Sterling. “Remember that a successful conversation will result in a win-win outcome. If your partner walks away feeling ashamed, blamed, or criticized, you’ve both lost. You want to feel as though serious conversations bring you closer to your partner, not further away.”

Take Breaks

It’s OK (and often more productive) to introduce a topic and then come back to it later when you’ve both had time to think through your response, rather than hashing it out based on your initial reactions, says Brooke Williams, a licensed professional counselor who specializes in couples counseling. “Saying, ‘I’m going to need some time to think about this, can we plan to discuss it tomorrow?’ can go a long way in finding solutions together, rather than arguing.” Sometimes the simple “sleep on it” technique can do wonders.

Don’t Drink and Discuss

For some, having a sip or four of alcohol helps relax the nerves if you’re about to have a big discussion. But alcohol can also have the tendency to heighten emotions or even make us say things we don’t mean to and interpret things differently. You would never get drunk before talking to your boss about something important, so don’t do it with your partner, either.

Talk Instead of Text

We can’t say it enough: Picking up the phone or, better yet, talking face-to-face is always better than texting, Gchatting, or emailing. “Yes, we’re all busy and texting can be the easiest and fastest way to communicate, but it’s the worst way to really talk to your partner,” says Erica Arrechea, cofounder and lead matchmaker at Cinqe Matchmaking. “You can’t detect tone and the silence when you text, which can lead to a huge communication block in your relationship.” It’s okay to text your partner first to let them know you want to talk (on the phone or in person) about an issue.

Yesterday, while celebrating the New Year in Miami, the burgeoning model posted a nighttime selfie with the watermelon emoji as its caption, leading us to believe that her new hue is inspired by the similarly colored fruit. Her hair falls just above her shoulders and if you look closely, there appear to be multiple tones of pink throughout; darker ones tucked behind the ears and a lighter shade on her ends.

We can’t wait to see what other celebrity hair transformations take place this year.

Kim Kardashian’s 2018 New Year’s Resolution Is Something We Can All Learn From

Kim Kardashian‘s 2017 was one heck of a year. She launched her first-ever beauty brand, KKW Beauty. She celebrated 10 years of her reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” And she announced that she’s expecting her third child via surrogacy with her husband, Kanye West.

With how accomplishment-packed 2017 was, the 37-year-old reality star has no time to waste if she is to up her A game in 2018. Which brings us to her New Year’s resolution, something she recently shared on a post on her website and app titled, “How I’m Celebrating My New Year’s Eve.”

While the post included several as-expected goals for 2018, such as to be more consistent with her weight training and to do her makeup more, Kim also shared a resolution that we imagine will be pretty tough for the selfie queen: “Be on my phone less and be more in the moment.”

Though the resolution might result in a serious revamp of Kim’s Instagram, we applaud her for making it a mission to unplug in 2018—something we can all benefit from. Other than her social media detox, Kim also shared huge news about KKW Beauty. She announced that the brand will be launching lipsticks sometime in 2018, which means that her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, will have some competition on the lip department.
