14 Naturalista-Approved Aloe Vera Products for Retaining Moisture

The list of effective natural hair ingredients isn’t short. Between YouTuber reviews, carefully curated sites like Naturally Curly and those tried-and-true brands everyone seems to love, we’re basically never done learning about what’s new and next. If we’re not doing that, we’re hopping on the bandwagon of an oldie, but goodie. In my case, aloe vera products for natural hair are a current obsession, even though its benefits are hardly novel.

Like castor oil, squalane, shea butter and plenty of others, the aloe vera plant is a multitasking dream that goes beyond curing sunburns. Whether you’re using it on your skin, scalp or strands, the crux of its benefits is anti-inflammatory. In other words, the gel—where most of the plant’s nutrients live—is filled with polyphenols, also known as antioxidants that inhibit bacterial growth and accelerate healing processes. In the case of our hair specifically, aloe vera also does a great job of adding and locking in moisture, as well as boosting shine and softening curls.

Beyond the dozens of vitamins and nutrients that can boost the benefits of your wash day routine (and promote growth), aloe vera also contains enzymes that can repair cells on the skin and scalp. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that brands catering to textured hair are making use of this ingredient. Aloe vera can be found in everything from shampoo to leave-ins to curl definers, including some of these top-rated faves.

TWICE’s Nayeon Was Followed by a Stalker on Her Flight & This Is Not OK

This is not OK. TWICE’s Nayeon is in police protection after a stalker followed her on her plane in Japan. Nayeon was on a flight from Japan to South Korea when he tried to approach her several times after the plane had boarded, JYP Entertainment, TWICE’s talent agency, told Soompi in a statement.

Once JYP representatives noticed the stalker, they were able come between him and Nayeon. We warned the stalker several times to halt his actions, but he ignored our warnings and attempted to force his way through and raised his voice, escalating the situation with problematic behavior,” JYP said.

JYP also noted that Nayeon wasn’t harmed by the encounter, but she is “discomfited” and “anxious.” The company also added that Nayeon is in police protection because of the incident. JYP also stated that it will take legal action against the stalker and is investigating hackers who leak flight information of artists, which is how JYP believes the stalker found Nayeon.

According to fans, TWICE posted an Instagram Story photo of an plane window on Dec. 31 that read, “Please go back home. Please stop. Please I beg you”in Korean.

https://twitter.com/misayeon/status/1212159085346541569?s=20

After the incident, Nayeon’s alleged stalker took to his Twitter to claim that he simply wanted to give his “love letters” to Nayeon and that TWICE’s managers “attacked” him for “no reason.”

“The managers attacked me on the airplane for no good reason. I wanted to give nayeon my love letters camly and then 2 managers jumped on me. What the hell is going on?” he wrote.

He continued, “The managers also started talking very loudly to me so that nayeon wouldnt hear me. The flight assistant scolded the managers to be quiet. What they did was completely insane. I will go to the police and report them for physically attacking me. This is crazy”

Regardless of how big of a fan someone is, it never gives them a right to invade someone’s privacy. No one is obligated to talk to you, especially if you follow them on their flight. In December, BTS’ V explained how the band flies on private planes now after stalker fans continued to abuse their flight information and follow them on flights. Fans have to understand that, while they may think they know their favorite artists, they are still strangers to their idols and should give them space and respect. We hope Nayeon’s OK after this frightening incident.

Read JYP Entertainment’s full statement below.

“Hello this is JYP Entertainment.

Today [January 1] when boarding a return flight from Japan to Korea, a stalker of TWICE member Nayeon attempted to approach her numerous times after boarding. We were able to respond to the situation right away, and [Nayeon] wasn’t harmed, but she is currently quite discomfited and anxious.

Due to the incident, Nayeon is currently under police protection. We warned the stalker several times to halt his actions, but he ignored our warnings and attempted to force his way through and raised his voice, escalating the situation with problematic behavior.

As a result, we will be taking the highest level of legal action available to us against [the stalker].

Furthermore, we are also investigating the illegal dissemination of our artists’ flight schedules and information. Especially after this recent disturbance, we are searching for a way to put an end to such activity as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize to the other passengers on this flight for the disturbance caused by this incident. We will ensure that such an issue doesn’t happen again.

Thank you.”

TWICE’s Momo & Super Junior’s Heechul Are Dating & Try Not to Freak Out

Try not to freak out, ONCEs and ELF. TWICE’s Momo and Super Junior’s Heechul are dating. Super Junior’s management company, Label SJ, confirmed the news to the Korea Herald on Thursday, Jan. 2. “After getting along as close colleagues of show business, the two have recently started liking and dating each other,” a rep for the agency said.

The Korea Herald also reported that TWICE’s talent agency, JYP Entertainment, also confirmed the relationship. The confirmation comes after Market News reported in August that Momo and Heechul were dating, which SJ Label and JYP Entertainment denied at the time.

“The two of them are currently developing a beautiful love for each other despite their busy schedules. It’s been said that in the rough entertainment industry where many incidents occur, they are a great source of support for each other. Their relationship began as ‘close seniors and juniors’ but they are now a couple,” Market News reported in August, adding that the couple met each other in 2017 after TWICE and Super Junior appeared on a program together.

“Super Junior’s Kim Heechul and TWICE’s Momo are close friends with a senior-junior relationship. [The dating reports] are false,” a representative for SJ Label told Market News at the time.

JYP Entertainment also released a statement, adding “[The dating reports] are false, and the two are just close friends with a senior-junior relationship.”

Since news broke of Momo and Heechul’s relationship, members of both fandoms have taken to Twitter to support the idols in their new romance. “Today SM and JYP have confirmed that Momo’s dating rumors of Twice and Heechul are true. Let’s give them a lot of love. Be happy together, we support you,” one user wrote.

Another tweeted “When Idol fanboys dance to Signal and go jiirriit jiiriit, then ended up dating a TWICE member,” alongside a photo of Super Junior performing the choreography to TWICE’s “Signal.”

Momo isn’t TWICE’s only member to go public with their relationship. In August, JYP Entertainment and KONNECT Entertainment confirmed that TWICE’s Jihyo and Korean singer Kang Daniel are dating. “They are currently meeting with interest in each other,” the agencies said in a statement.

New year, new romance. We love to see it.

BLACKPINK’s 4 Members Were Discovered in Completely Different Ways

With two No. 1 albums on the Billboard World chart and seven hit singles, it isn’t hard understand why BLACKPINK is one of the most popular girl groups in the world. But how were BLACKPINK’s members discovered? Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo have been in the band since it debuted with “Boombayah” in 2016, but what were their lives like before BLACKPINK and how did they become trainees for YG Entertainment? Well, like most K-pop bands, BLACKPINK’s road to success is complicated.

BLACKPINK, formed by YG Entertainment (one of the “Big 3” entertainment companies in K-pop), debuted in August 2016 with their first single “Boombayah.” Since then, the four-member girl group has achieved international success. The band, which has sold millions of records worldwide, became the first K-pop act to perform at Coachella in April 2019. The girl group also has a song, titled “Kiss and Make Up,” with Grammy winner Dua Lipa, and has caught the attention of celebrities like Harry Styles (who attended one of their concerts in April) and Ariana Grande. So, yes, if you haven’t heard of BLACKPINK by now, it’s time to catch up. And what a better way to start than learning how the band’s four members—Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo—became a part of BLACKPINK in the first place.

Jennie

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

Jennie was the first BLACKPINK member to become a trainee at YG Entertainment. According to Korea Boo, Jennie moved from Seoul, South Korea, to New Zealand at 10 years old. While she was a student at ACG Parnell College in Auckland, New Zealand, Jennie was interviewed for a documentary by the network MBC, where she revealed that she listened to a lot of K-pop and had dreams of becoming an entertainer. (The documentary also made her first BLACKPINK member to be on TV.)

When she was 14, Jennie’s parents wanted to transfer her to a school in Florida in the United States to become a lawyer, but Jennie, who had dreams of becoming a ballet dancer when she was young, convinced her parents to allow her to return to Seoul, so she could pursue a music career. That same year, she auditioned for YG Entertainment with Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” and became a trainee. Jennie, who sings and raps in most of BLACKPINK’s songs, initially auditioned as a singer, but the heads at YG convinced her to train as a rapper as well after learning that she was one of the few trainees who could speak English. As a trainee, Jennie was featured in the music videos of several other K-pop stars, such as G-Dragon and Lee Hi. Jennie has also expressed that she was worried she would never debut after spending six years as a trainee at YG. Now, she’s considered one of BLACKPINK’s vocalists and rappers.

Lisa

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

In 2010, Lisa attended an audition in Thailand, where she was born and raised, to be a trainee at YG Entertainment. Of the 4,000 people who auditioned, Lisa was the only one to pass. When she moved to South Korea in 2011 to be a trainee at YG, Lisa, who was in a dance crew in Thailand before BLACKPINK, didn’t know a word of Korean. She studied hard at the language and eventually became fluent enough to be BLACKPINK’s main rapper. As a trainee, Lisa was featured in the music videos of K-pop stars, such as Taeyang. Though Lisa sings in some of BLACKPINK’s songs, rapping is where she shines. As a Thai, she’s also the only member who isn’t of Korean descent.

Jisoo

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

Jisoo, BLACKPINK’s lead vocals, became a trainee at YG Entertainment in July 2011. On an episode of Radio Star, she revealed that she was scouted by an SM Entertainment agent at a YG Entertainment concert, where she turned the offer down. Along with her K-pop career, Jisoo is also an established actress. Before her debut, she starred in commercials for brands like Samsonite, LG Electronics and Nikon, as well as the Korean drama The Producers. She’s also appeared in the music video of K-pop artists, like Epik High and HI SUHYUN.

Rosé

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

Rosé was the last member of BLACKPINK. Raised in Australia, Rosé had a knack for singing, songwriting and musical instruments. In 2012, when her father heard of an audition for YG Entertainment in Australia, her father immediately signed her up. “I used to live in Australia. It was a rural neighborhood, rather than a metropolis. So I stayed home playing the piano or the guitar and singing,” Rosé previously told fans. “My dad noticed that I like music, so he took me to audition. Before I auditioned, music had been a hobby, but once I came to Korea and realized where I stand in terms of skills, I became more passionate and competitive about it.”

She became a trainee in May 2012 and had the shortest training period in BLACKPINK. As a trainee, she was featured on G-Dragon’s song, “Without You.” Now, Rosé is regarded as BLACKPINK’s main vocalist.
