Sarah Hyland Had the Best Response to Her Wardrobe Malfunction on Vacation

Laugh it off. Sarah Hyland responded to her wardrobe malfunction at a beach in Cancun, Mexico, in the best way. The Modern Family actress, 29, was photographed on vacation in Mexico with her fiancé, Wells Adams, on Sunday, Dec. 29. In photos published by The Daily Mail, the ABC star was seen skipping down the beach in a white bikini top, glasses and high-waisted bottoms. The pictures also showed her trying to show her husband-to-be, who wore a red floral shirt with matching swim trunks, how to twirl.

It looked like a fun day in the sun for the couple until, while she was dancing, Hyland’s bikini top slipped down and she had a mini wardrobe malfunction. No big deal for her though. Photos of the comedy actress show her laughing off the wardrobe malfunction before she went back to twirling in the sand. Other pictures showed her sipping a piña colada after taking a dip in the ocean, which is the mood we want to take into 2020.

The next year should be an exciting one for Hyland, who got engaged to the Bachelorette alum in July after almost two years of dating. No word yet on the wedding date, but from recent interviews the couple has done, they’ve been hard at work planning their nuptials and are expected to tie the knot some time in 2020.

2020 will also mark the 11th and final season of Modern Family, which Hyland first starred on in 2009. The final season premiered in September 2019 and is expected to air its finale in 2020. Hyland plays Haley Dunphy, the eldest daughter of Claire and Phil Dunphy, in the Emmy-winning sitcom.

When one door closes, another one opens, and we’re sure Hyland will star in some exciting projects in the future, especially after the release of her rom com The Wedding Year in September 2019.

‘Friends’ Is Leaving Netflix Tomorrow—But Here’s How to Still Stream it in 2020

So we have some sad news: Friends is leaving Netflix tomorrow a.k.a. January 1, 2020. But there’s a bright side. There’s still a way to stream Friends in 2020. How, you ask? Well, all 10 seasons of the NBC sitcom will stream on WarnerMedia’s new streaming service: HBO Max. Now for the bad news. It won’t be on the service until May 2020, so if you were used to watching Friends online, you’ll have to be without Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey for another five months.

What does this mean? Well, if it’s not the New Year in your time zone left, you still have a few hours to binge Friends on Netflix. Of course, you may not be able to watch all 236 episodes (unless, maybe, you watch on 5x speed), but you can still fit in your favorites. We recommend these New Years-themed episodes, and, of course, the Thanksgiving specials are always classics.

Friends—which starred Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc—ran on NBC from 1994 to 2004. It won multiple Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Aniston.

For those who can’t wait for Friends to be on HBO Max, which will cost $14.99 a month, there’s still a way to purchase your favorite episodes. iTunes offers the complete collection of the show for $140, while YouTube sells each episode for $1.99, and $19.99 for a entire season. You, of course, could also go the old-fashioned way and purchase the physical DVDs. Amazon sells a physical set of Friends‘ entire catalogue for as low as $74.19 (not including shipping costs.)

Regardless of how you choose watch Friends, we still recommend at least signing up for the free trial HBO Max. The Hollywood Reporter reported in November that there’s a reunion special in the works for Friends‘ 25th anniversary, which can only be watched on the streaming platform. What that will entail, we don’t know, but we hope it’ll reunite the six actors for the first time in what feels like forever.

If I’m being honest, I wear denim almost every single day. Rip It Up—

Because the fashion universe knows we can’t wait for our parents to comment on the holes in our jeans (*eye roll*), ripped and distressed denim is on-trend for 2020. Pair these hole-filled wonders with a graphic tee and and an oversized blazer or an effortlessly chic wrap top. The possibilities are endless on this one.

Boot-Cut Baby—

Former horse girls (You know who you are.) rejoice, because boot-cut jeans are in for 2020. This style is very ’70s mixed with a little bit of the early aughts, so go ahead and grow your hair long and grab a poncho to achieve the full look.

High-Rise & Wide-Leg—

More fabric, please. High-rise wide-leg jeans are here for 2020, and I’m pretty happy about it. Whether you like your wide-leg denim to hit the floor or prefer it cropped, as long as it’s high-waisted, you’re good to go. This style of denim is perfect for pairing with feminine blouses or cropped sweaters.

Skinny Legend—

Everyone loves a good skinny jean, am I right? Luckily for all of us who have seven pairs of this style in our closets, the high-waisted skinny jean isn’t going anywhere in 2020. Wear your favorite pair with a turtleneck and statement duster jacket in the winter and flow-y crop top in the spring.

Long Form—

Ankle jeans whomst?! Long jeans are in for 2020, so go ahead and forego shaving your legs. This style of denim is perfectly paired with crop tops to add a little bit of contrast in lengths. Wear your tiniest blouse with these long jeans in the summer or cop a fuzzy cropped sweater in the fall.

Pleat-Front, Please—

Pleat-front pants are trending for 2020, so it only makes sense that pleat-front jeans are also set to make as place in the new year. This style of denim is basically made for tucking in chic blouses or graphic tees and cinching that waist of yours with a belt. Vintage vibes all day.

Shorty Get Loose—

While long jeans are in for 2020, so are short jeans. Whether it be jean cut-offs, denim capris or (Don’t hate me for this.) denim bermuda shorts, you can re-purpose any old pair to become trendy for 2020. Just take a pair of scissors on your high school denim and get to work.

Sofia Richie’s Wintry Outfit Is Giving Us Major Luxe Snow Bunny Vibes

Is it just me, or is Sofia Richie always on vacation? No judgement—If I were her, I’d be doing the exact same thing (and posting all about it on Instagram). Luckily for all of us who can’t go on vacation all the time, the star’s constant travels mean we get constant outfit inspiration. And Sofia Richie’s Aspen vacation look is truly one to behold. It’s basically like the little kid from A Christmas Story grew up and got a really good fashion sense. Richie is all cozied up for the wintry weather, but still looks chic as hell. As anyone who’s ever tried to stay both extremely warm and look photo-ready will know, that is a very difficult task. Of course, it’s unsurprising that Sofia Richie and her infinitely cool street style pulls off the vibe effortlessly.

Dressed in slightly-puffy cream pants, a tan turtleneck and camel coat, Sofia Richie has created the ultimate snuggly uniform for a warm and fuzzy New Years. Although I’ll be spending the end of the decade wearing a hodgepodge of items I packed in my suitcase to visit my parents, Richie will be spending it staring out at the snow with a truly stylish cold-weather outfit.

If you’re itching to recreate Sofia Richie’s street style in the new year, there’s no fear of her look going out of style any time soon. In fact, neutrals are a major fashion trend for 2020, so you can go ahead and copy this cozy snow bunny look even after the clock strikes midnight.

Of course, Richie didn’t trek to the mountains in Aspen all by herself. She brought along Scott Disick to celebrate the New Year in warmth and style. The two have been vacationing quite a bit together recently, and I’m sure 2020 will bring even more adventures for the couple. I, for one, can’t wait to see all the outfits Sofia Richie wears.

When I’m Anxious I Binge ‘The Vampire Diaries’ & That’s OK

I’ve heard a lot of advice on how to cope with a bad bout of anxiety or depression. Meditate! Exercise! Journal! I’m sure plenty of other people find these strategies helpful—and more power to ‘em. But me? When I’m depressed, I binge-watch The Vampire Diaries, a show about unreasonably hot vampires made for teenagers. I’ve watched the entire series more times than I can count, and before you ask, I am not embarrassed about this at all. The thing is, sometimes when I’m really going through it, going for a run or breathing in counts of four is not enough to get myself back to a manageable headspace. Yes, regular exercise and meditation are healthy habits I encourage everyone to try. But consuming media (even media as silly as The Vampire Diaries!) is a legitimate coping tool as well.

It should be noted here, first and foremost, that if you live with an anxiety disorder or depression and seeing a regular therapist is within your power—do that. What I’m talking about here is dealing with an anxiety attack outside the therapist’s office and finding the right coping tools that work for you.

I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder with a side of depression and ADHD that was only diagnosed a few months ago. These things sometimes make life difficult for me, especially in the years when getting therapy was not a possibility. A lot of Googling on how to deal with anxiety tended to lead me to many of the same responses, namely: meditation, exercise like running, deep breathing, or the very vaguely described “mindfulness.”

The Vampire Diaries

The thing is, when left alone with my brain for any amount of time, it begins to attack me, like a running ticker tape of everything I’ve messed up, will mess up, forgot to do that day or how I’m otherwise screwed. I usually rise from meditation sessions in panicked tears, way worse than when I started, having just been bombarded with every negative emotion I’d been trying to keep at bay. Running also gives me way too much time to think, while focusing on my breath tends to cause me to forget how to breathe.

When left alone with my brain for any amount of time, it begins to attack me.

I was feeling pretty out of options and ugly-crying at an intake session with a therapist when she told me it was actually pretty common for people with anxiety to respond badly to meditation. In fact, it could even be damaging. I can’t remember ever feeling freer or more vindicated.

It turns out what I actually need is a distraction.

The Vampire Diaries

Image: Cw Network/Kobal/Shutterstock.

I don’t mean full-on escapism where I hole up in my room for 72 hours with the TV because that is, obviously, unhealthy. What I mean is, when I have “your life is actually falling apart” playing on a loop in my head and I can’t shake myself out of it, what I need is to focus on something else for a little while. For me, watching Stefan and Damon Salvatore fight for Elena’s heart in the downtime between outwitting some all-powerful foe is just the ticket.

When I’m panicking, what I don’t need is more time to focus on it.

The Vampire Diaries is not high-brow television by anyone’s estimation. The thing it has going for it is satisfying melodrama, occasional comedy and breakneck plotting that refuses to go stale (at least until season 5). It’s fun, compulsively watchable TV, and it never fails to distract me from whatever I’d been panicked about before. When I’m panicking, what I don’t need is more time to focus on it.

Christen Sistrunk, MA, LPC, a therapist focused on anxiety disorders and depression in Houston, Texas, says this is totally legit.

The Vampire Diaries

Image: Cw Network/Kobal/Shutterstock.

“When we’re feeling really bad, we might watch something or do something like self-care that’s going to make us feel a different emotion,” she says. Sistrunk explains how, for some people, watching TV “engenders a different type of cognitive process,” which allows them to reset and approach problems with a fresh mindset afterward. She relates it to a form of cognitive behavioral therapy called Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), which teaches emotional regulation, among other skills. One exercise that teaches this skill is to identify an emotion, and then do something to make you feel the opposite of that emotion. Feeling lonely? Make plans with friends.

Sometimes your brain just needs a break, and there is nothing wrong with taking it.

But, Sistrunk warns, beware of letting this self-care slide into obsessive or addictive behaviors. Think of it like a tub of ice cream. You could eat a cup, you could eat a pint or you could eat a whole gallon. The secret is in finding the balance.

The Vampire Diaries

There was a point in my life I was a little embarrassed about my love of The Vampire Diaries, but I’m here to remove the Teen Soap Opera stigma—and all the other judgement around low-brow entertainment. Sometimes, your brain just needs a break. And there is nothing wrong with taking it.

Vanessa Hudgens’ Switzerland Vacation Looks Are Aprés Ski Goals

There’s nothing quite so cozy as a wintry mountain vacation. And while I’m not really the type of person who will ski on said mountains, I—like our queen Vanessa Hudgens—do appreciate the fine art of aprés ski fashion. Vanessa Hudgens’ Switzerland vacation outfits were truly the kind of ensembles you want to wear whenever you’re in the mountains—skiing or not. Cozy, chic and perfect for Instagram, these looks just make you want to ditch all obligations and take the first flight out to a winter wonderland.

Hudgens’ first look consists of a chic cream turtleneck (a must-have), black blazer coat, sunnies and red gloves. The ensemble is so simple, yet so perfect for a mountainous vacation filled with snow (and wine, according to Vanessa Hudgens’ Instagram photos). This has quickly become my goal aprés ski look, and I’m currently searching my closet to find pieces to recreate the outfit.

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

And, although it has really nothing to do with Vanessa Hudgens impeccable street style, my favorite part of this Instagram photo might just be the fact that Kenny Ortega (choreographer and director of High School Musical, obviously) commented to wish “Baby V” a happy 2020. My heart swells. Gabriella Montez lives on.

Later on the trip, Hudgens braves the cold in a zebra stripe sweater that has me swearing off all other animal print. It’s a true skill to look both cozy and fashionable, but V-Hudge has done it once again. I just want to cop these outfits and sit by a large fire, book and a warm boozy beverage in hand. Maybe I’ll just spend my New Years Eve by my fireplace holding a mug of hot chocolate, pretending I’m actually at a bougie ski resort with Vanessa Hudgens nearby. Manifesting that energy and that energy only for 2020.
