21 Spring Coats That Are Equal Parts Stylish & Weather-Appropriate

March is officially here, which is simultaneously exciting and upsetting. Exciting, because it means spring is basically here. Upsetting, because it clearly doesn’t feel like it outside—it snowed in New York a few days ago. However, In my experience, adding a new spring coat into the mix adds will make it feel like the seasons are actually changing—and will keep you warm in those weird transitional temperatures.

Spring is an odd season for outerwear, because it doesn’t feel like there should be any outerwear involved. I think of summer dresses and strappy sandals in the springtime, not parka jackets and snow boots. Aren’t we done with coats and jackets and cardigans and sweaters already?

But the truth—whether or not we choose to accept it—is that spring is a fairly chilly season. Every year, lower temperatures manage to pervade (or more precisely, invade) our lives for weeks on end. It’s often frigid in the morning but nearly tropical by the end of the day, which can be disastrous when planning out your outfits. Keeping a lightweight jacket in your rotation is my favorite tricky weather hack.

I know it feels counterintuitive, but at this point, it’s pretty damn necessary to stock up on spring coats of all kinds. The silver lining? Warmer temperatures are just around the corner. Until then, we plan to stun in the cutest spring coats on the market. Consider buying a cozy quilted option or a light-as-air windbreaker to stay dry during those April (and honestly, March) showers. Or, throw on a shearling-lined leather jacket for a menswear-inspired vibe that makes layering anything underneath it a snap.

Read on to see 21 of my favorite spring jackets from all of my favorite brands. No matter your price point, I can almost guarantee that there’s something for you on this list.

The Cotton Quilted Jacket

Sometimes you just need a quilted jacket in your closet, am I right ladies? This one from Everlane is gorgeous on its own, but you can also layer it up if the weather does get chilly.

The Patch Pocket Car Coat

I’m a sucker for suede, and this faux-suede option looks way more expensive than it actually is. I have a hunch that longer jacket silhouettes will be all the rage this season, so this is a great way to ease out of cropped styles into something a bit more mature.

Think of this jacket as the updated version of those olive utility jackets that you wore back in 2015. The flattering cinched waistline adds some shape to this otherwise relaxed silhouette.

Charcoal Maxi Windbreaker

I’m a huge fan of always keeping a lightweight windbreaker in my tote bag. They’re so thin that they can fold right up, so you’ll always be prepared for even the most out-of-the-blue weather. This one from PrettyLittleThing will go with all of your OOTDs, too.

I’ve had my eye on this ivory puffer from Bubish ever since it hit Revolve’s site. A puffy bolero? It’s just crazy enough to work, and I’m 100 percent here for it.
